It's not really all that bad. The really really early game is rough due to how little you have access to. Frankly the early early game sucks.
A lot.
I hate it.
Until you get to Tarkus you're down there in the trenches. By late game, Kineticist eventually can waltz about with like 71 intellect and 69 Will and manhandle the entirety of Dhaal.

Even before that, by the mid game, while it may not outscale the other classes in raw damage, it does scale substantially more easily (that is, with less trips to the gym or conversations with Syri) whilst also becoming effectively immortal due to it's tools.

The (probably) hardest part of kineticist is picking the right combination of skills for the build you want to go down. Unlike the other classes, I'd say it's exceptionally easier to just flat out brick your character.

After that it's just getting the right gear.
Kineticist gets 13 minimum defense for free at max level. Those 0 defense pieces in the game that have 5-10 Crit bonus? You can rock them without much drawback.

Crit's especially noteworthy because of how free it makes single fights due to Deep Impact. Each crit stacks the stun debuff. So, you mentioned Hureya. This is after 3 turns.


5 Entire turns of stun. Sundered on top of that. Obviously no enemy can even possibly move let alone survive. It's like a Magma Crusher but with every single weapon instead.
The damage isn't too shabby. If you get a frost crit on a sundered target you're reaching ludicrous heights only kineticists can get (if lucky)


and it's still suck because concussive augmentation and haste has turn limits

It costs energy but you have 200 of it. It also has comparatively substantially more on it's regain.
Mercenary can restore half, Tech Specialist restores 33+, Smuggler has IIRC 60-75 +25% (at low health)
Kineticist get's 75% or 150+ (more if you opt to take the accessory that gives 25% additional).

Is it as broken OP as Smuggler and Tech? Nah. But it's not that bad.

funfact tech atleast early js conversion could become even more broken because you could merge classes together and be a tech person who throws grenades or pulls out a minigun.

I don't particularly care if it gets broken later on considering all the other classes are strong from the start with no real noticable drop off.
The biggest side is that for one tits combat is not fun and there is a lot of it.
Designing a class that requires setting up combos and managing a resource is not exactly fun nor engaging in this game.

There is no fun in a high skill ceiling when every other class has a low floor that can kill shit in their sleep.
Every class looks at kineticist and says, "look what they need just to mimic even a fraction of our power."

Designing a class that requires setting up combos and managing a resource is not exactly fun nor engaging in this game.

as more an outsider to the class it seemed like they decided to make kin the darksouls class but didnt make it an engaging darksouls class.

I kinda agree but also don't.

Kineticist is a weird class because it's arguably both the worst and the best class depending on the skills, a lot of the skills are just dogshit awful but the good ones are really OP but there is a major issue is because of 3 things.

1) Kineticist doesn't have any real strong "theme", it's kinda hard to find weapons that go well with kineticist unless it's freezing effect.
2) You have to grind until like level 6 to make it viable while the other classes are more usable in level 4.
3) A lot of the skills feel very... disconnected, most of them don't go well with eachother or are very niche in some situations.

Kineticist can be OP if you build it right, emphasis on building it right.

It's not broken later on. It's luck based (debuff) while other classes, especially smuggler can easily clicks and win at late game. I just tried Alterism's build and Lv 12 Kineticist struggling against the rat raiders because their stun grappling loop and multiple enemies, other class would sweep the floor with the rat raiders at lv 10. Kineticist is very weak towards immobilized status. It's also lacking powerful AoE damage. It is definitely the worst class in the game, and again, their final skills are jokes, like Fenoxo is deliberately make the class worse. Blindness and poison cleanse, really?(⁠ノ⁠≧⁠∇⁠≦⁠)⁠ノ⁠ who cares about those debuff when other classes can finish the battle in few turns regardless of those debuff?

There's no Kineticist build that make it the best class in the game. Smuggler is far better than it because it can stun, deal very heavy damage twice accurately, then bleed, and deal heavy damage via assassination while keep avoiding attacks with stealth field generator.

Yeah. Exceptionally easy to brick. I don't even think that's necessarily a bad thing. I just think the early game should probably be smoothed out. With all three classes you can blitz right to the probe and leave, maybe pick up a gun in Tarkus but still blitz over the pirates and leave, and finally go dunk on myrellion and leave.

Those 3 planets are pretty rough even if you already know what to do. The only way to bypass these issues is to go bimbo and cap out your libido and I'm not down for that on every playthrough. You can bum rush the sizzlepod staff but it's rough going even getting it and it barely evens the playing field.


Rather than just waving them off as bad, I can identify a bunch of issues with kineticist and~

Even with this, it can still be good due to how it's scaling works. The second you get to dhaal you can throw on an implant for 10 intelligence and never miss ever again whilst all of your status effects land. It's just got a lot of glaringly obvious sorespots that probably should have been fixed awhile ago to aid playability.

Did you do the combo? Are your stats high enough? I fought them a bunch of times just to make sure of consistency and didn't have any issues.
Levitate, concussive augmentation, entropy waves, haste.
If you want to be 100% safe (not needed) you can go "Levitate, concussive augmentation, debris field, entropy waves, haste instead. At this point each attack including hastes should be 1 rat a turn.

Ideally you should have the sleet shaft as well. Getting that thing as early as humanly possible helps a lot.
Oh wait also evasion. Replace your gun with something that gives a little bit of it. 20% before flight is a good number to have.

My intelligence and willpower are maxed. I can kill a rat, but then the other rat stun me, then grappling, I use mind trick (which waste a lot of energy) then stun me again, while the other revive the dead rat. And then stun, grapple.

By max you mean 65 Willpower and 70 intelligence, right?
Unlike the other classes, Kineticist scales even harder with it's primary scaling stats. If you're at 20% evasion base this gets bumped to 30% in flight. You could also start at 30% and go to 40% but that requires the jetpack (and by proxy not having the reaper cloak)

Actually speaking of gear, you can get the reaper cloak by beating up the Halloween themed enemies that should be happening in game right now. Additionally, if you've not compunction to wearing it, you can buy the witch's set from Inessa. Both of these should give you 20% crit.

Anyways without that if you want to 100% win always always open up with the second loop of skills: Levitation, concussive, debris field, entropy wave. I malingered a bit and it seems you can dodge even while pinned. And a 1/3 chance to dodge attacks without sacking defense handles everything else.

I'll briefly go over my gear just in case:
Sleet Shaft
Witch's Robe
Bio-Enhancement Shield (for the evasion)
Grenade Launcher (though you can replace this with the Warden Shield you can get off of Tarkus)
Reaper's Cloak.

Though it's also extremely probable the one level difference between us is making that much of a difference.
I should start a new playthrough one day.

Yes, I already have reaper's cloak. i spent a hour farming for one since we're near Halloween. The fact the class want a rare Halloween item make it even worse... I used proto shield for the thickness, I will try to change it to Bio. I used tech jumpsuit for the crits.
