The only 2 sandbox game I can think of that I enjoy are Horton Bay Stories-Jake and Master's of Raana. Master's of Ranna is more of strategy/roleplaying game with naughty pictures than your standard AVN. But Horton bay is probably closer to what you are trying to do.

Sandbox, as in an event oriented game, ceases to be about a story, and about what event the "Player" was able to find and trigger. From that point on, there's really no story. When Devs decide to go the Sandbox route, they are confessing that they don't want to write a story anymore. They only want to play hide and seek with the events, wasting theirs and ours time in a patience test to see who gives up first. Me. I'm the one that gives up first.

Please do scrap it. And the Mini-Games too... or at least give us the consideration of being able to not play them.
Hard agree. Good story telling and sandbox mix like oil and water. Instead of continuous, naturally flowing narrative we usually get assortment of events, sometimes even out of chronological order. Or characters refer to events that didn`t happen yet. Its a mess. Some devs try to alleviate this by blocking your progress until some conditions are met, but game becomes basically a VN with extra steps at this point.

So my advice for the dev, if you want to tell a good story first then ditch sandbox and dont waste Yours and players time. Choice is fine, like what quest to tackle first, but it doesn't have to be a sanbox.

Or ignore everyone and stick with your own vision, cant please everyone. Usually most successful devs are like that, whether their game is a sandbox or not.

Amazing girls and graphics, and a good start, but please, no minigames(or make then optional). Please no Sandbox, do not let the game become other "Ring of Lust"(With good graphics and scenes, but just unplayable).
I just stoped to play on this hearth thing.

It's such a shame people hate sandbox so much. But I gotta blame devs that implement it in an awful way. If done right, it can be a hundred times more immersive than a simple visual novel where all you do is click next to see what happens. Just turn it into a comic in that case.

And then there's kinetic novels. I hate kinetic novels with a passion, why are they even considered games?

That said, when it comes to sandbox I prefer it when the game is from the PoV of a female protagonist. The immersion comes with the bonus of making it feel more like a life sim depending on what additions the dev puts in the game. That's a bit rare but I always hope there's devs out there who want to push towards that aspect.

Damn, you guys really hate sandbox lol. I honestly didn’t know it was that bad. I don’t like grinding either, but my idea was small achievements to progress the story—his new job, helping at home, and rebuilding the car. But I’m really considering scrapping that now. Thank you for your opinion, this has been very enlightening. I was too stuck in my own head!
please do! sandbox almost never(yes there are exceptions) add to a game but rather detract. But dont go full Kinetic either thats even worse!

The animated scene needs the lighting turned up a bit, you can barley see anything and the coloring on the model starts to look weird. Also the game needs to be more clear if your related to the family or not, because everyone else calls James "Dad" but not the player.

Hello developer Golden Midnight , first of all congratulations on your first release. Being a solo dev is really hard, but you managed to do it.

Now, about the game, I read where you said: “but in the next versions I’m still deciding whether to stick with the Ren’Py game style or change it.”

Did you mean switching to another engine, or just deciding between a VN or sandbox style within Ren’Py?


In your dev notes, you listed features like:

Movement system: Move through the areas.(coming soon on 0.1 build)
Interactive map: Map with different locations.(coming soon 0.1 build)
Day and night system.
Animated scenes.
Mini-games.
And much more to come!

Most of these sound like they’re for sandbox-focused games. So is the plan mainly sandbox, or still VN-style?

Also, you mentioned there’s no NTR. That’s really good (incest + no NTR is rare, and a big plus). Maybe harem could also fit well. Please just consider—if you do plan to add sharing/swinging, even it's optional or at least mention it early. That way players who aren’t interested can move on, and it saves everyone a lot of back-and-forth later. Honestly, sometimes devs say one thing and later add another, which causes confusion.

Personally, I’m still waiting before playing. I enjoy incest content, but if this turns into a sandbox with heavy grinding, that’s not for me—it feels like a waste of time. I’m not saying you should remove sandbox entirely, just sharing my preference as a player: I don’t enjoy grinding or sharing my LIs.

Lastly, I hope your game finds the right audience. Good luck with development!

If it is time/day based it should be easy to know the next step when and where something like Midnight Sin, stat grind to unlock content is shit, how ever you look at it.

Sandbox, in whatever form is a story killer. Period.

And I, well, I REALLY am here for the stories. Sure, H-scenes are cool and all, but it IS the story that makes me come back to a title.

When Devs gamify the story telling, they kill it. It is no longer a connected, linear, sequential experience, it is a chance driven set of disjointed scenes with a barely recognizable "story" thrown in for flavor. It is psychotic. It is by force of the event oriented medium, psychopathic.

There is no reasonable way to tell a story if any part of it can be played in whatever order, or, in order to maintain the linear flow, the Dev gamifies the finding of the trigger (either by hiding, or by gate keeping it under repetitions). From that point the "story" is dead.
