Was wondering when this was going to take an effect. MMORPGs might be next.

Thats not entirely a bad thing... GTA is the average persons 'just fuck off' line - its a political football with massive public goodwill that has battled video games ratings systems & advocacy groups for a long time.

If the UK fucks with the VPNs then the VPNs and other sites can ban all UK traffic.
Simple as that.
If they want to be China then they better Invest to Build a Parallel Internet like China.
Or you can have a VPN that is actually undetectable and unbreakable.

You voted wrong with Tories, you voted wrong with Labor, next time you better vote right.

It's not a matter of left or right.
Just wait and see how this will be implemented worldwide by governments that, at least in theory, hold the most diverse positions.

Not when it comes to blocking the payment to such entertainment.

Only one party with any chance of winning seats in parliament has said they will overturn the online safety act.
Even though they are riding high in the polls right now a coalition of those that oppose them will see them defeated.

It's alleged, though not confirmed by any reliable source, that the UK government is considering banning people who refuse to confirm their identity under the new internet laws from accessing the internet entirely.
It may be just a rumour but in recent years rumours have had a tendency to become fact.

I fear that the UK public is far too passive. The UK government will simply wait out the backlash like they've always done then carry on. As much backlash as this is getting online, its still not enough. I rarely hear anyone mention this irl, not even my friends care, nor my family. People will just moan a lot and ultimately put up with it. Which sucks.

Sounds like bullshit but with what happened, I wouldn't be surprised.

As a brit i agree, the majority of the population are not really politically engaged unless the pm as done something bad or some financial crisis happens, but when an election is due issues do come to the surface but that's ages away, sad and disappointing but it is what it is.

F95 is not hosted in the UK. Why would they care about British law? What can the British authorities do? Try to block F95zone? Good luck. VPN usage has skyrocketed in the UK since the law came into effect.

1. There are already plans to extend this in many other countries.
2. In the UK they can use a VPN only because the gov is letting them do so, for now, while monitoring the situation closely (their words).

Some sites are already blocking VPN's, no doubt after pressure from the government.
Use VPN and they detect the source is not in the UK so block you.
The blocked IP they quote is not the correct one.

Isn't it nice? Gotta love some "democratic" blackmailing.

I've seen several solutions that make much more sense. Well, they make more sense if your goal is actually protecting kids, but we all know the UK government doesn't actually care about that.
  1. Device-level age verification
  2. UK fucking off
  3. Opt-in to allow adult content for ISPs
  4. Giving parents resources to learn about the internet
  5. Parents actually watching their kid
  6. UK fucking off
  7. Under 18 devices (phones laptops) that disable access
  8. UK fucking off
As a parent (living in a country other than the UK), I use various parental control techniques to prevent my children from accessing inappropriate content. I am sure that one day they will learn to bypass it.

But I think that children who are capable of bypassing parental controls are old enough to see "inappropriate content."

And the bonus is that it will come in handy one day when they need to circumvent government censorship, which isn't so bad in my country (yet), but the trend across the EU is that it will definitely get worse in the future.

I think it's time for all websites based outside the UK to give the British authorities the middle finger and say, "Fuck you, we're going to ignore you."

The British market is not that large or important, and the British authorities' ability to reach anyone outside their jurisdiction is very limited.

What can the British authorities do if the operator of a platform abroad ignores them?
