The mechanics feel like they were designed by someone who wants everything to have a resource system...
I'm super curious which enemies were causing you issues. It sounds like you were using the Dash ability a lot. TBH I never found a single place, aside from the tutorial, where Dash should be used. With the speed at which enemies move and attack, dashing feels like it would cause you more problems than less.

Your 3-hit combo drains enough stamina that you should be backing off from a fight, if there's enemies or an enemy still alive.

But it takes like, 1 second to get your stamina back, so just walk away for a second and then attack some more.

Here's a little guide to fighting

It's fine if you get hurt. Your heal will heal more than the enemy can damage, as long as you're not just standing there letting the enemy shoot you with arrows. But approaching enemies as I've listed above will result in you not getting hurt. Except maybe the bow guys. It's just as fast as any other way due to stamina and low HP of enemies, and requires no dash.

Also, you can recover stamina while the enemy's fucking you. Just wait a half second, you can still struggle out.

As far as how I feel about the game, it seems good. I felt like fighting was a bit repetitive about halfway through the bandit camp. It'd be nice if there were like a parry or a block to add some more options. Or if enemy's chased a little more so you couldn't just cheese them. If the dev gave them a little jump, or more than 1 attack.

I do really like the traps, they made fighting in areas with multiple traps interesting and traps as a kink are bis.

Even though this is clearly early in development, I like how it feels to play, the enemy variety, and the level design feels well thought out. Super promising!

Because there's no guard and no backstep, dashing to bait enemies into attacking so you can hit them during downtime seems like the intended usage. The alternative is strafing enemies the way you suggested, which you even mention becomes repetitive.
That's my problem. It's not fun to have a system that essentially punishes the player for not using the tedious and cheesy way to fight.

Oh I didn't intend to imply that it was repetitive because of strafing. It felt repetitive because of how simple and easy combat is.

This is why I would like it if the enemies had more options. Dashing isn't necessary because of how easy combat is.

Backing away isn't tedious or cheesy, you just take a single step back. Your attack out ranges every single melee enemy, and every enemy attacks so slowly that simply walking back 2 steps is enough to avoid damage.

This is a good mechanic. What would make it interesting would be to have it varied. Have attacks that require you to dash to avoid, or attacks you can't dash and have to parry.

But as it is there's only one mechanic: strafe.

Again, strafing isn't a problem. If it were only parry, or only dash, then it would be the same issue of repetitiveness.

But also, it's version 0.14. Lots of room to grow!

Sounds like you could inform the dev about this! You have pretty good feedback that is pretty informative about the gameplay compared to some reviews that aren't very well-thought out or have informative criticism.

This is a great demo, keep up the good work! Smooth gameplay, seems fun, 2d pixel style works great. My biggest issue is the controls are a bit tight. I keep hitting V instead of C for example. I see why one-handed controls might be good for game like this though, heh. Maybe try left shift or left alt for the dash instead? It's a common key for it. Also there appears to be a bug with goblin spearmen, if they 'finish' you, your characters freeze and you can't get up.

What are you supposed to do if you let the animation play to completion? I'm just stuck here unable to move and none of the buttons do anything. Are you supposed to just exit from the menu? edit: Nvm that's a bug. The spear goblin hardlocks you.

Feedback:
The animations are good but I think they'd be better if you increased the speed and "energy" a bit. More frenetic.
Combat is a little on the basic side atm. Could try faster and more aggressive enemies with a timed block or more dodges to compensate.
The movement is a little slow and floaty. I think getting the feel right is very important for action games.
The menu sound confirm sound is very harsh and hard on the ears.

All in all, very excited to see where this will go, wishing the dev good luck.

Honestly I really like the struggle system, the only adjustment I think is needed is a bit more leeway when pressing the button right before the prompt, it's pretty relaxed if you press it after, feels a little inconsistent because of that. Also up the regen speed, feeling like you need to sit around just to wait for stamina will always feel like ass.

Unless the developer plans on adding more complicated combat mechanics I'd say it's a pretty good artificial difficulty to have. I mean, in most games you need to be careful and pay attention to your stamina anyway.

Not sure if it was mentioned already but the h-scene with the goblin spearmen locks the game for me, as soon as he's done cumming he just stops moving and stays there forever until i reload
