I know that the expansion mod isn't compatible, so I'm tempted to edit this myself. My question is, would I need anything other than java coding knowledge to do so? Would I be able to take what exists in the expansion and update it to the current version? Or is it too big of a project and should just stick to what exists now?

Not officially but given the fact that it's been in development for like 5 years by now and there's little to no proof of work being done you could just call it for dead. It had the release date for december 2024 on steam and then changed to "TBA" and the only guy who communicates about it (that it's no even Critical Bliss or Cypres) keeps telling a demo it's coming but nothing happens.
Same happens with Venture Seas, NTRaholic, Orc massage, etc.

Which, seeing as it was posted over a year ago, is not recent enough to be considered evidence the game is still in development. Their Discord is pretty close to abandoned too, with the only channels seeing consistent activity being the porn-sharing channels.
If you're specifically replying about the abandoned tag on this game, the forum's rules are that it gets applied when a game has no visible activity on any of their public channels (Steam/Patreon, etc.) for three months or more. Once it is applied the forum's moderators won't remove it until the game updates.

There are a lot of missed opportunities. The actual gameplay is fun but the sex is not enough. It never feels enough. Also, sex scenes dont seem to change even if you're male or female. If you're female it will replace your cock with a strapon. A lot of work for little sex. You go to the Egypt land and jack a defeated enemy off but cant fuck him in the ass later. You have a brothel but there are like no animated scenes at all and it's just word-spam.
Not only that, I hate the lack of choices. There is some shit that happens near the end of the game and I forgot how to do a spoiler tag so I won't bother, but I gnashed my teeth trying to find a way, ANY WAY, to get something else to happen and it's not possible.
Give it a shot for the card game combat but think of the sex as "easter egg". Idk, like get into the mentality where it isn't an actual porn game, just a horny game like some gacha or whatever.

Pretty much! That's literally the problem. No way to kill the individual responsible for the vore, no way to save the victim in question, no way to substitute her for someone else like the hundreds of victims I have defeated along the way. It HAS to be that person in question. It's awful.
