I wanted to add an ingame version of that which was the notice boards in the suburbs and I think Monduval. They would have vague mentions on where to start each questline.
I can work on adding them back in.
i was just thinking that trying to get exp and money in this game is a bit of a bore, and i thought to myself "this is a roleplaying game where the story is pretty loose and doesn't hold your hand, so how can a roleplayer like myself get my kicks and get rewarded for it?"
and then i thought of this:
boom. bounty system.
so, think of it like this: you're flat broke, you've got a sword and some rags to your name, and you didn't take the chosen one start so really you're just wandering around with no house, no money, and no bitches.
then you spot a bounty board outside the gallows area, next to the main entrance of Monduval. it starts off simple; you have no rep after all, you're just a random guy that picked up a few bounties for some money. a wolf pack that['s been bothering some farmers, a zombie or two that strayed too far out of the graveyard, a goblin that's become known. the rewards would be simple: a flat reward of 100 exp and about 150-200 gold depending on the bounty. small pennies, really, and the exp is barely anything. but it's enough to get you started.
then, as your rep as a bounty hunter climbs, you get to see more and more, and harder, bounties. a group of goblins, a horde of zombies, wild and rabid dogs, maybe even a mini-boss if you feel like adding those in. this would be mid-game rewards, like giant amounts of money, or a weapon or piece of clothing and some exp.
when you get known enough, you might also become a folk hero; or a villain, depending on the jobs you take. bounties are good things, they benefit the surrounding areas and the people, but if you're aligned with the thieves' guild you could take on maybe...not-so-legal bounties. assassinate a nun and her knight, kidnap a noble's daughter, escort a slave caravan. you do positive bounties you get positive rewards and you get known as a hero to the people. but do bad bounties, you get more, less legal rewards, but people definitely don't want anything to do with you. i suppose this could affect vendor prices or something if you're worried about it needing to be this big massive system that influences every npc to ever exist. just throw in some flavour text about how safe someone feels or how horrified they are or something.
i was also thinking that this kind of system was a perfect method to level up companions - if they can level up, i don't really remember if that's a thing or not.
the point is; this kind of thing would make it so we have a nice, simple, repeatable little way of levelling up and getting gold without cheating our ways into to being able to actually fight the small horde of twenty zombies lurking just outside the swamp, or the wolf pack of five wolves that dodge every goddamn thing i do like wtf.
