Famale has more content and you get a quest to genderbend you lose male options... male is very ... 40 male 60 female more content

The expensive robes gives you a permanent +2 to Looks: which affects interactions with others. They may also come into play later during formal events.
The expensive wand gives you a permanent +1 to Coordination, and I think makes earning points during classes easier.
The expensive books gives you a permanent +1 to Intelligence. They also give you another option to solve quest #2.
The expensive owl is always available to interact with, whereas the cheap owl might not be.
