Yeah I also got Skill Issued by Weiss 2nd fight and lost a couple of times (even as the grinder I am). SOME bosses here are MAGNITUDES more difficult compared to other bosses. I think my Walls were the first hobgoblin, then weiss 2nd fight, then duo hobgobs. The developer clearly knows his games are on the "sweaty tryhard" level for a H game and his games are known for being "difficult". The problem with GUNS is they don't feel organic, unlike comboes with skills (where you can build skill chain for decreased cost + increased damage). The guns feel like (fck this boss I will delete some HP off him). I'm sure a BETTER player will find a way to weave guns into their combo cycle but it feels clunky to do (I'm using keyboard and the dev recommends gamepad for this game). He really was a BITCH to fight since if you are not reliant on counters to make him a joke, then he will constantly aggro on you and you won't have enough time to attack back (need to break his break bar first which the best way to do is counters). At the very least on gamer you can have shit ton of heals with consumables (10 usage). Which may be enough to clench a win.Even on Gamer difficulty is really hard on fresh new game because some bosses are ridiculously hard to beat like I am struggling a lot dealing Weiss (after Sewer story finished) due Devs doing cheap tactics like he constantly dashed multiple time when doing attacks and some of his attacks are unblockable (sword-gun explosion, his finisher and his flamethrower/gun combo).
FYI, I fought him on level 40 and still struggling a lot against him even I modded the firearms to the max (all moddings unlocked) and it takes few retry until I can beat them with some lucks. I know this game is more dark-souls type, but the way Devs making it was underhanded most of times and if I playing on Light Difficulty (below Gamer), it was a total joke compared to Gamer difficulty because the difference is day and night.
Only when I beat Weiss, I decided to beat the Airsoft mini-games and modded all weapons (2nd and 3rd tabs, 1st tab excluded) to make story progress a bit easier to beat. I will play the Challenge and Inferno after beating Gamer 1st (no lower difficulty during mid-game for fair play).
Also agreed that his inspiration for these games are apparent being inspired by games like sekiro/DMC games. Also the way lower difficulty works is it basically CULLS the game mechanics and disables some game mechanics on lower difficulties lol. So the balance like you said can go from (lower difficulties) to easy as breeze to (gamer/normal diff) being a steep wall that requires grinding/practice.
Weiss 2nd fight will be the Final "wall" so far in the story (duo hobgobs side quest aside). Since if you manage to beat that boss with the way the dev intended (parry/counter focused and comboes) then the other bosses will easily fold due to your mastery of instinct in terms of counter timing (as long as your level and gear is appropriate for the area).
There's a DIFFERENCE between BLOCK and parry/counter. Block basically is holding the button of counter. While counter is pressing the counter button at the right timing. Weiss and other bosses have GUARD breaking attacks (specially when he gets to half HP). There is a passive that grants you the ability to prevent guard breaks if that's your playstyle though, combined with the increased sp gain when blocking.
