I've given up on trying to help Daz Studio cult members, it's just depressing and too painful to watch them struggle, but I do wish you the best, and hope you can get help somewhere.

Intervention for people who have not yet been indoctrinated into the cult, is still an option. Leading them towards real tools and programs that they can use to make great games. Nothing against your VN comic book that you spent 3 years making in Daz studio, you get a gold star for trying.

polywog is one of those people who stopped for a moment to self reflect, and determined the best balance of priorities. Figuring out how to best spend their time and energy in an amount appropriate to the amount of satisfaction they would get from participating, and total fucks given.

polywog is one of those people who has been doing 3D for a long time, using multi-million dollar hardware, and $40k software licenses. Once you've worked in that kind of real-time virtual environment, where you can pull up a thousand assets at once, choose just the right one for your scene, and discard the rest...

there's no going back, to babby tier software like Daz Studio that loads one shoe at a time. Literally scroll-wheel through 2500 pairs of shoes on the model vs the way daz handles assets. Put a hundred outfits on a character with one click, and have her catwalk while you scroll through and find the one you want. vs 20 minutes per shirt in daz pulling cloth out of boobs, because the progran has no concept of physics. The Gamebryo engine from 1999 is better than Daz studio.
Now that these hardware, and programs cost next to nothing, there's no excuse for using 8bit programs like Daz studio.

Have some self-respect your time is valuable.

Daz assets (y) Daz Studio (n)

polywog Hmmm... that gives off a similar vibe to how schools teach match, first they teach you how to solve a problem using the initial tough math (ie making custom assets or using programs like daz) and then when you get to the higher level courses or industry, no one uses the math because everyone has short cuts and tools they use instead (such as the powerful computers and software you mentioned).

remember when the government put Mac computers in public schools to prevent poor people from being successful in life, while they put PCs in private schools and Universities? It's like that. One group destined to be producers, while the other was relegated to consumerism. A 3D software user creates, a Daz Studio user consumes.

I'd have to agree. I found out quickly, at least for me, it can be depressing being limited in Daz. By limits I mean lack of real uniqueness. Especially on the asset side of things. All the ideas I had in my head require "other tools". Best to stop beating a dead horse and relearn.

At least, that was my decision. I think it will prove more valuable in the long run.

Although I agree with you polywog, something you haven't brought to light is how someone with limited experience is gonna have access to any of the technology you describe, let alone know how to use it.

Also, these are mostly solo teams. Whatever you may do for a living that gives you access to the technology and license you have, I highly doubt consists of only you.

Give me a team of salaried employees, 3D software licenses, an office space, and I will use what you're describing. The reality is the scope of most adult games are small because the teams are small and technology available needs to be within that scope.

Example: Wildlife devs, using original 3D modeling and creation within an full feature game engine. "Big Brother" devs, using assets and Daz for models and scene building within a visual novel engine. The difference is the scope. Wildlife has a team, huge funding, and a team of people with necessary skills. So of course they are going to use more advance technology.

When I was a child, each night when the scientists finished torturing, and conducting their experiments on me, they would lock me in my cage, turn out the lights and go home. Leaving me in total darkness except for a few hours per day, when sunlight would come through the archer slits in the walls of the old fort dungeon that was my home. Those rays of light crept down the wall, and acrooss the floor as if they were alive, a welcome friend, unlike my tormentors. We'll call him Ray. I learned a lot from Ray, his habits, each day when he arrived and went through his daily routine, I watched. Ray couldn't have answered, if I had been able to talk, barking at him had no effect either.

Seeing Ray interact with various materials fascinated me, his presence lit up the entire room sometimes.

My childhood friend is not imaginary, Ray is very real, all around you.

I am a 3D modeler of over 25 years experience. Started in 3DS Max and am now an active user of Blender. In my humble opinion, Daz3d is a unique 3D application that focuses mainly on Human characters to be used and animated for computer games, film and animations and special effects. Like they say on the front page. Iron Man used their characters for the movie.

As far as 3DS Max and Blender go, these software programs are Super way more powerful then Daz3d as they can do almost anything you can think of. However what Daz3d does is that it focuses on one aspect, apposed to 3DS Max or Blender witch focus on all aspects.

Because Daz3d just focuses on character animation and rendering, it can do it so much faster and better then 3DS Max or Blender, because it is already set up for that.

In blender or 3DS Max you would first have to model the character, then skin it with bones or biped, then texture it, then animate and render it. So the whole process in 3DS Max or Blender would take a huge amount of hours to get done, when you can do the same thing in minuets in Daz3d.

Now if you want to model something Daz3d does not do that at all. They have their own 3D modelling software called Hexagon but even that is still on the low end of modeling.

thats my opinion. :)
