(y):coffee: It reminds me of Thot on Trial—the game kicks off with a flash-forward of the FMC getting double-stuffed, with thick black cocks filling her pussy and ass :Kappa:
I also pointed this out as a flaw in a 3-star review of Angst
On a positive aside....if the scene is "exactly" what you are looking for in a game, then I guess it's a positive to some.
But, if it is your "thing", specifically, then why would you want to climax before any rubbing has even started? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I would only "read the back page" if the story was boring me, and I wanna know if its worth it in the end.
Subliminal message time.....dev is saying "the story is shit, but just be patient....."

You know what the worst-case scenario is? It’s when one part of a game is absolutely brilliant, while another part is just awful
It leaves you going back and forth on whether to keep playing or just call it quits. You don’t exactly want to continue, but you’re also hesitant to just let it go. Eventually, after a bit of back-and-forth, I usually just end up putting it down

By 'bad parts,' I mean those impossible-to-ignore elements that are woven into the very fabric of the game—things like unavoidable cheating tropes with a masochistic execution
There are a few games out there that I’ve always wanted to play and see through because of their high-quality segments, but I never actually did

In sharing games, which sit somewhere between vanilla and cheating—assuming you don't want to veer into cheating—do you use URM?
I’ve been using URM for a long time; it has so many advantages and grants you a lot of capabilities. Imagine you’ve lost a save file; with this tool, you can revert to the latest update. Or imagine the dialogue box is glitching, along with dozens of other problems and incredible abilities this tool offers you
Perhaps one of the greatest helps you can get from it is fixing a game developer's coding issues. There was some game out there where the developer wasn't managing variables properly, causing some relationships to become forced. With this tool, this major problem was solved easily and without side effects. In other words, with your creativity, you can make great use of this tool

But after using this tool for a long time, today I was playing the game Girlfriend online for the first time. Since it is online, this tool wasn't available. I kissed the FMC's mom's neck <I love kissing necks, doesn't matter who it is ❤ >. After that scene, I kept looking at the top-left corner to see the URM warning. I kept wondering if my decision was a mistake and if the FMC would find out about this kiss later, causing problems. But URM wasn't there. If URM had been active, as soon as I reached such an event with the FMC, I would have seen a warning in the corner beforehand, and opening it would have revealed that that kiss caused this event. The fact that URM wasn't there, and I was in a state of uncertainty, caused a huge increase in tension and excitement in the game. I became much more immersed because I was constantly watching the characters, their faces, and their dialogue to see if there was any reference to that kiss or not. It was a valuable feeling; I thought I'd share it with you

On the other hand, since URM wasn't involved, it is entirely possible that I might miss scenes and events that are locked behind variables. This is definitely important too

Ultimately, I reached the conclusion that I have to choose one:
  • either normal play, which carries the risk of missing scenes and events, the risk of bad reactions from the FMC or another woman locked behind a variable, and even the risk of cheating;
  • or playing with URM, a Walkthrough Mod, or similar, which reduces tension and excitement but makes the gameplay completely safe
Which is your choice? And why?

If I don't feel like I "need" to use a walkthrough or the URM, I prefer not to. If a game is made well, frankly, you shouldn't need to do that to sift through choices who's outcomes are hidden. I'm frustrated by ones where the ONLY way to access a certain path or type of content is by making an elaborate set of choices that a normal person would never guess that they need to in order to get there. After all, why have an entire appealing storyline included that's shut behind a maze of doors only a few people would ever access through normal play? There are several ongoing games that are like that for me.

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't use urm because a) it ruins immersion as you detailed and b) I find the ui clunky and ugly, if I need to check or tweak variables, I'll just use the console/open script in other window.

Walkthrough + URM
The Walkthrough mod on itself only showed me which variables are changed with my choices, but it didn't show when the variables are checked to determine the path. When I used both Walkthrough + URM I saw the "path split" notifications, you can see which variables and what values determine how the events will unfold and you can change these variables right on the spot to go a different path than the one you are going. It is helpful, because it shows which choices led to a specific consequence.

Another thing I do sometimes is unpack game resources, look at the scenes and check which one I haven't seen. Then I go to the game code and look for the path to the file with the scene I missed. By looking at the code I can understand how I can get to that scene. It's quicker than trying all the choice combinations inside the game

Since we are obviously talking Ren'Py, there is usually always rollback or multiple saves.
Not all walkthroughs lead you down the "right" path, not all games "lock you in".

But some games are not intuitive at all, have no mods, and no variables for urm to work with, just event choices, which urm doesn't handle well.
Sure, I mostly have urm running if I feel the game might be a "bitch", but really, a good, well written, logical game needs none of that.
Some better devs actually make their path choices obvious in the actual choice as you make them.

But, in the end, if a game is just a mess of coding that makes no sense, or is just non-stop grinding, it never gets finished by me, and ends up in the bin anyway (I don't care how hot the slut is, haha)

Exciting Games is one where the decisions are baffling and could use the URM mod, although I've never tried the mod to be honest. One decision that forces a lesbian scene or not is selected in a previous update by get this: which bikini color you selected for your best friend. Yep.

Meanwhile some devs wont try to mess around and just straight up say "<line here> (THIS WILL BREAK OFF THE ROMANCE)".

I'm not a fan of having to sometimes use porn logic, sometimes rng, sometimes realistic, all to follow the path I'd like to see.

For the record, I'm a big fan of the game in general. As someone interested in the open relationship aspect, I simply dislike not having the option. And since you brought it up, I do not have agency in this regard, unless things have changed there is only one woman you can potentially get permission for as an option. I understand what the game is going for and respect it, but it can be frustrating with how I'd like things to go.

And everyone who has played knows the character I want to get with that the game provides no mechanism to be honest about unless the game has changed.

Edit: Correction: there are at least two women you can get permission for. Also, admittedly I may be ignorant that certain earlier choices may have locked me out of what I want.

Anyway, I plan to do a whole new playthrough once the new version is released.
Could be the choices you made earlier. And also, your opinion might change after playing the update.

Btw, what's the last uupdate you played?

Yeah, those kinds of things are the ones that drive me nuts, and lead to me adding the URM. Its one thing if the player makes choices to treat a character poorly, exclude them, or perhaps be forced to choose between one or another. That's completely logical. It makes it interesting. But when a choice either blocks something or else is the ONLY way to open something, and there's absolutely no logical reason for it, then I just shake my head.

There are a few older games that I played once, didn't care much for, and moved on not thinking much about. Years later, someone put them in a thread for a certain type of kink, and it confused me because I was sure that wasn't part of the game. So I asked about it and sure enough, if you make the wrong mundane choice with something early on it just totally blocks that path and you would never know.

I install URM with every AVN I play. How much I use it within the game depends on how the game is going. If I want a specific path or to avoid one and it's not obvious, I use it. I also use it because I don't want to have to do multiple playthroughs, I don't have time for that. Then I get the story I want and I am happy.

5.5 Public from a year ago (the latest version here). Due to my choices, wife was having revenge sex and then the game just kind of ended. Maybe the other paths went further. I've been waiting for the update and/or Steam version to replay. I recall there being mention of some stuff being reworked. Anyway, like I said, I like the game even with what I see as flaws.

Like everyone's saying, adding urm would've dodged this mix up and kept you on track.

I didn't know about URM back when I played this in May (I think). I also knew exactly what I was doing even if at the time didn't know how things would end up.

Plus, I was replying to Sod, so my post wasn't really part of the current URM discussion here even though it was sort mixed up in it.

I do use URM on certain games though. Great tool.

Revenge sex, hmmm, that means you are on cheating path. I highly recommend you to be on Hotwife path, next update will be a good one then.

Yeah, I've been playing adult games for about ten years and didn't know about the URM until about a year ago. Its a very useful tool for either when a game is too opaque, is made poorly, or if you've gone though it once blind and want to figure out how to access content that seems to be there but you never saw. Its also far easier than going into file editors to cheat when you need to adjust stats within a game.
