I tried out a few of those Japanese 'sharing' games today, and every single one of them ended up turning into straight-up cheating. I'm totally traumatized. I'm steering clear of Japan from now on :cry:
Just check vndb tags for jap stuff, they usually tell you what to expect exactly (much better than f95 tags do). I don't know if it's just me, but when the wife is voiced and I like her voice, the game hits much harder. And Jap games almost always have fem character voiced. On the other hand I'm not into sharing IRL so when the fem character feels too real I already don't want to share her (which happens quite often in Jap games).

haha - mods are obviously into NTR - just had a post deleted for "whining about NTR"

And, yeah, any games with "humiliation" tag get ignored by me automatically, but I do not enjoy devs who seem to just think its all "part and parcel" of any game involving cheating or sharing, and so that tag is never actually flagged. Which, combined with this site's refusal to do anything about the "far-too-ubiquitous" NTR tag, covering any form of neto-whatever into one complete mess, its always hard to screen out games that "include" humiliation and MC-shaming, SPH etc, as "just part of the game, man".....ignorance abounds.

Need to applaud those devs who are honest and forthcoming with players about what to expect in their games, even more so those who embrace the "proper" sharing we all admire.

My pet hate isn't NTR as such, its sneaky, dishonest devs really..

I do find it weird they lump it all under NTR when NTS and Netori exist.

Even in the realm of NTS there are still (at least) two distinct flavors in this space, and I think treating them as the same thing causes massive frustration for everyone. (Stag/Vixen vs Cuck/Sub)

These are almost orthogonal concepts. Both are valid.

Devs need to be clearer when they can but tags are fairly limited, not sure if they are trying to hide anything on purpose - but idk, just wanted to put this out there because some games that I like do get bad reviews because someone expected sub-genre-specific A and got Z and it never made much sense to me.

The fault lies with the developers themselves for not providing clear explanations regarding controversial topics right from the start
If a developer intends to create a "sharing" game, they must provide a brief explanation regarding the MC and FMC's personalities and the relationship dynamic
Two simple examples:
If the MC is a submissive loser interested in humiliation, tell the players this right at the beginning. This way, Stag/Vixen fans won't waste their time, and those reviews you mentioned won't appear
If the MC is strong or average, there is no humiliation, and the wife isn't loose but is actually caring, tell the players this right at the start. This way, cuckolds who are into humiliation, submission, and similar themes won't waste their time, and again, those reviews you mentioned won't appear
Clarifying just these two simple issues would make life much easier for all of us

Generally agree. Ideally, no one should have to play 2 hours to find out it's not their thing.

I think where it gets tricky is finding the right balance between "clear enough that people know what they're getting" vs "so specific it boxes the story in."

My only minor worry is that it makes games that don't follow established tropes/dynamics a bit harder to position in that scale.

What if the MC doesn't know what he wants yet? He tries the stag thing, hates it, then discovers he actually wants the humiliation (or vice versa)? The discovery is the story, but how do you label that without spoiling it?

What if she's the variable? Same MC, but depending on which girl/route, he's dom with one and sub with another because of her?

I know those are more philosophical than practical example though as the real issue is more often than not just bad comms.

Hypothesis or not, these are certainly valid scenarios/points. And I get that for some it could create a quandary to feel that they have to provide any "giveaways" in a story with multiple paths/options.
But, there is a space in every OP for a game called "Developer's Note". There is a chance for any dev to explain what and where the game might lead to, and the choices available, that are not covered by the tags. Fairly sure the Mods would happily copy/paste any description you care to place in there.
Those notes can go a long way to avoiding "butt-hurt" reviews.

Not as weird as the large crowd who lumps any and all male sex that doesn't involve the MC under NTR.
haha..reminds me strongly of the kerfuffle made about the intro scene in No Mercy, where the MC was "forced" to witness the FMC cheating. That scene lasted all of two seconds game-time, but took up about 20 pages of complaints about "all the NTR", even though the game had much darker elements that would get someone imprisoned IRL....and it was the basis of the story, without which the game had no meaning otherwise. And the rest of the game had not one bit of anything remotely ntr-ish. Never saw another cock anywhere, lol. (unless you chose to share one incest scene)

Yes, that’s true, that exception does exist. But dev have to signal it somehow—which is admittedly a bit tricky—without giving away big or ruinous spoilers. Because imagine someone is playing a kinetic novel for the sharing/dom content, everything was kept hidden, and then in the middle of the story it turns into cuckolding... That is wrong

I agree with you guys, great points were made.In my opinion, tags are great for when you want to watch an nfsw video, that is a specific act/situation,and has no continuity. But when it comes to a novel/game with a story that revolves around a kink like sharing, which has so many variations,it's a bit more complicated than describing it with a few words/tags.

I think for everyone to have a good time, and to avoid bitterness and rudeness, devs should be transparent and informative enough about their content, but without disclosing/spoiling everything. And the players approach and play the games in good faith, with the intention of having a fun time.

Probably the right place to ask this.
I'm really digging your game, but I'm a bit thrown off by the ex-boyfriend stuff you added after the rework.
What do you even call it when a girl describes her past hookups with an ex to the MC? It’s not really sharing, and it’s not exactly NTR, so I’m scratching my head here.
To be honest, it kind of bummed me out. It gives off this weird NTR vibe even though it isn't technically NTR. It just feels strange, like someone else already "won" and the FMC belonged to him first.
You rarely see this kind of teasing about an ex in Western sharing content, so it’s pretty unfamiliar territory for me.

From the Dev's side of things we can suggest Tags, but it's the F95 people who control them and the broad brush nature of the tag definitions does result in stuff being swept into unintended boxes occasionally.
f95zone.to/sam/planned_tags-v2.html
This needs to be prominently linked (in the site header or something) so people can find, understand tag definitions and how F95 applies them...
I can't recall who posted this back when, but I bookmarked it immediately because I was looking for tag definitions and couldn't locate them.

links to the thread...

I haven't played that far in this game to see the exact content, but I generally wouldn't think of it as a problem at all. Not in a game or IRL. My wife has talked to me about other guys she was with before we met, and I think its hot. She's made the choice to be with me, not the other guy, so why should I worry about it? And so in the context of a game or a story, is confusing to me as to why it would be a problem too, unless the MC is absolutely terrified that his wife is going to run off.
