Why are people still arguing in this thread? It's been over 2 years, the game has been marked as abondoned and if people want to pay a monthly fee for 2 years of nothing just let them.

Like in all gaming media money speaks and if you stop giving people and companies money they get shit done REAL fast.

Well, if you just don't want to believe this couple of devs who have never been caught in a lie in 4 years and have always underpromised and overdelivered in their estimations, and all of this just because 'other devs' did, that says more about your irrationally butthurt thinking than about my 'coping'. Anyway, I won't lose sleep for this. About the premade assets, just be honest with yourself and others. Have you seen a single Gomira's sprite in the available content so far? Why and how would they have a bunch of already-made backgrounds and sprites for her story when they were working on other updates in which they didn't need them? Sure, the MC is mostly covered at this point so technically is true they will use some old resources, but I thought it was obvious I was talking about Gomira's art and the quest-related backgrounds.
So yeah they have to do a Gomira sprite. So what?? The rest of the cast will be still at their disposal, or do you really think that she will have zero interactions with the world? Same goes with backgrounds, it will be 3-5 new places and the rest are old backgrounds.

You yourself said that 3.5 years of dev time was put into 3/3 of the game rn, so how is 1/3 of a game for 2 years sound good for you? (even tho i said i'm not buying this 1/3). It's still slow as fuck. And i'm perfectly fine, what to butthurt over when i was not even that interested in this game. It's more like you can't just admit that the devs are trolling at this point so you have to pretend that all is going according to plan.

Let's do some basic maths, then, and let's see if you can follow: 3.5 years mean 3/3 of the game, so 1/3 would mean 1.2 years, or 14 months give or take. Add the 5 months of paid leave they both would be granted if they were on the payroll for someone else in their country (16 weeks for both parents, plus one extra month for breastfeeding only for Chestnut, the artist, plus at least another month for Pistachio due to his double hip surgery), and ta-daa! we are not-so-magically at the current state of affairs of 19 months of waiting.

Now, when you are on a paid leave you can't work at all, but when you get back to work you are expected to be working at your 100% from day one. In this case, they said they didn't stop working, but any adult person who's been around a newborn knows how things tend to go in their first year, so I'd think it would be fair to assume that taking care of a newborn didn't let them work at their 100% until way after that 5-months mark -and that they didn't even work at their 10% at best for many weeks in that period. So, all in all, I think we can equal the totally paralyzing effect that a 5-months paid leave would cause on any given project with that of the constant but slower pace of development this project has been experiencing from October 2022 to October 2023.

That's why I think this update is not taking THAT long as it may seem, all things considered - that is, of course, if they are not lying about the size of this update, and as I said they have a clean track in that regard and even their progress tracker checks out. About the pre-existing assets, according to you, it's the same as with the previous updates: they also had tons of assets (again, according to you) they reused, so in the end it seems to me that they are working more or less at the very same pace as before, and even faster if I'm right and they have to create more environments than you are imagining. But this we'll see for sure when the update drops: until then, it's obvious you have chosen your side and aren't willing to even consider the possibility of being wrong. And this leads us to the final point.

I didn't say you were butthurt by this game, I said yours was an 'irrational butthurt thinking' because it sounded like you were hurt by some other devs in the past, which has made you think all of them are the same, which is irrational due to being butthurt. Now it only sounds like you're just arguing for the sake of arguing, throwing accusations and assumptions without even taking a proper look at the available info beyond your own nose or the reasons others (I) give to you. Who is trolling at this point?

But how can they deliver the biggest update ever made 1/3 of the game, when you say that they didn't even work that much? Do you really think they were working non stop those 1.2 years? Even that amount of time is stupid for a single update of a visual fucking novel. So why didnt't they deliver in a year before the child was born?

What a Legends!

OK, last comment since I get Maths is a bit tough for you and you're even starting to get your dates wrong. Yes, it is their biggest update, because in one single update, they are going to add 1/3 of what they have added in 6 updates. That makes this update twice as large as the average update so far. And, as I've pointed out, they are spending in this update more or less the same time (after adjusting the parental issue) they needed to create 1/3 of the current content. Which again, seems about fair. The child was born in October 2022, and they delivered the previous update at the end of July 2022, so that's about 2 months of work due to a couple of weeks of rest they took after releasing 0.6. They basically planned out the quests and have just started working on it when the baby was born.

Seriously, dude. Nobody will think less of you if you just let it be. But keep doubling down your dumb takes and most sane people will think that... well, I'll let you guess. You choose.

Anyway, what matters here is that all of this info has been available to their supporters as events were developing, all while their daily progress (or 'lack' of progress) is made public every morning on their discord and their site. People can feel disappointed and drop their support, and rightly so, but no one can really say they've been misled by those devs who quickly cool down the excitement when someone expresses his hopes of getting the update earlier than devs think they will be able to provide it. There's no *soon* or similar messages from them, quite the opposite.

I just don't care much about this game so i didn't know when they had a child lol. Still You picture it like the baby just dropped out of nowhere. And then they just went for a 1/3 update (if it even will be that) instead of doing smaller ones. The character there is not even main girl or something. So yeah good production, when even normal updates are taking ages.

That's a good point, indeed.

They're not milking if that is what you are suggesting. They stand to make far more money actually releasing the game than they do milking its development. They're actually probably losing money on it at this point. One thing I learned from my years as a patron is that these two are perfectionists, who revel in the creative process to a fault. Also, side note, no need to be vague. If you've got something to say just come out and say it.
Copium overdose.

That is literally what he said. And you are posting scenes. He was talking about backgrounds and character sprites that were done literally ages ago. And all devs need to do is make more scenes which you post, make some new backgrounds maybe and change some sprites if needed. So how is he wrong? You just can't justify 2 years of development for this amount of work, especially when we had the same content updates made faster.
That has literally nothing to do with what I'm saying and what he is arguing with me about. Most of the updates don't involve sprites the vast majority of the character content IS entire drawings like the ones I posted.

Like I've been saying, the real culprit here is bloat. Its not just shit luck on the devs part. Its not just the time consuming nature of 2d art and animation. Nope, its just bloat. The longer time drags on, the more they feel the pressure to deliver and the more they feel that pressure, the more they add and the more they add the longer it takes. Its a constant need to hit a home run, when really at this point they should just hit a nice high quality bunt and call it a day. Just a really good short, but sweet update featuring a hot orc chick. Thats all this update ever needed to be. Instead, we're getting like porn Lawrence of Arabia or some shit. All love to the devs though, they're genuinely good people, just slow, meticulous, and their storytelling lacks brevity.
Is that even true? It actually IS the time consuming nature of 2D art based on the level of detail in these drawings and the length each update is. Bloat is just another word for longer updates on a difficult and time consuming medium. Have any of you drawn 400-800 highly detailed scenes before like this? I know people who work in animation. For one person to output that much in a year or two is actually crazy. Let's put it this way if you worked every single day of the year and drew one scene you would just barely make 400. Now this girl is raising a newborn child, probably working 5 days a week and there are 260 weekdays in a year not including days off for sickness or whatever. That means she would need at least three scenes like this to keep pace:

https://f95zone.to/threads/what-a-legend-v0-6-02-magicnuts.51349/#lg=post-3408266&slide=13

Which btw, this scene a alone would take hours to do even with the most skilled artists. The time actually makes sense.

Generally, I believe they work 7 days a week in some capacity. At least they did while I was a patron. Anyways, you missed my point entirely. I wasn't denying that the aforementioned things had a role in the slow dev cycle. All I was saying was that the updates are too long and ambitious and they don't need to be. Especially when its just a side character update. Can you explain why an update for a side character needs to be larger and have more words and art assets than the main story update? Or why it needs to be any longer than the already slightly too long Rose and Mrytle updates? Thats all I was saying.

Theres no reason other than Magicnuts giving the patreons the choice to vote for bigger updates for some odd reason.
The fact the orc update is going to take like 20 months or more is actually insane.

Well, originally their update style was pretty bite-sized and longer updates felt welcome at the time. And in general, long update cycles aren't necessarily a bad thing. Most of the time they are a good thing. More content and polish. However, when nearly two years have passed and the update still looks months away... There might be a problem...
