This is a dogshit add to the discussion, and here's why. What the creator of "Love of Magic" has to say about the development time of What a legend. It's quite a good summary of what a lot of people have been saying here these past months here and I thought It'd be a nice add to the discussion.
you are correct, there is a difference between criticism and accusations thoughI feel like the truth is somewhere in the middle here. From what I constantly see, there's people who say that the devs are the worst kind of milkers, and then there's the people who say the devs are literal angels sent from on high and any criticism is Verboten and you should Feel Bad for it.
The truth is that the devs are not very good at time management, refuse to hire on anyone else, and are perfectionists to boot. However, they are not milking people. They very strongly believe in what they're doing, and so the lack of a dev team is a personal choice for them. Cool, that's fine. The fact that they spend something like 1 month bugtesting is because they want to release something as bugfree as possible. Also fine. They offer refunds, and so if people want to support that they can.
However, this does not make them immune to criticism. If people think they take a bit too long with their updates, they are entitled to that opinion. If don't mind, hey, that's fine too. This is probably the worst thread on this forum I've read because there's literally no middle ground here.
The fanbase is not hereThis is a dogshit add to the discussion, and here's why.
I'm gonna assume Droid is talking about Paradise Lust, the 2d game he's working on. They get 2k/mo on theirYou must be registered to see the linksand have 9 people working on the game.
Magic Nuts gets a whopping 9k and still has 2 people working on their game, so I think it's obvious the development is managed extremely poorly.
I mean, since we're there, check out the amount of content. PL started development in october 2020(looking at when F95 threads were created), and they already have a very lengthy game full of content and actual gameplay. WaL is still a relatively short VN(no gameplay) despite having 5 months headstart and 3-4 times bigger budget. I'll admit I don't care about the game that much(in fact, I mostly come here to laugh at the shitshow), so feel free to take this however you will. The whiners are dumb, the whiteknights are dumb, the paypigs are the dumbest of all for payrolling this bullshit, at this point nothing of essence can be said and nothing really matters. The game will continue developing, but as far as I can see the fanbase is dead. RIP.
Follow your own statements. However, they are not milking people.
However, this does not make them immune to criticism.
The Patreon people are the ones who decided to go for this 'bad dev cycle', so I guess they are happy enough? Different people, different takes on itThe issue is the last 3 big updates including this one have all been late. All three. That shows a chronic issue that isn't going to fix itself any time soon. An update shouldn't take an entire year. It really has been 10 months, wow.
Once or twice or something but the way the game is headed we're looking at an update per year. With the amount of characters this game has (and keeps adding!) and the main story being separate from the character updates, this game will never finish.
I was a massive, massive ardent supporter of this game in the 0.2, 0.3 days. Defended the game here from people like the other white knight types. Now I just don't give a shit since hey the game is free and all. But I really don't get the patreon people. Do they not notice how bad the dev cycle has gotten?
I guess so.The Patreon people are the ones who decided to go for this 'bad dev cycle', so I guess they are happy enough? Different people, different takes on it
They'll be getting even more money and people will whine all the same because updates are short and should be bigger considering how much money they earn. There's always a reason to drop some 'constructive criticism'You can't really blame the devs when their payers wanted this. Look at the change log, it used to be 3 sex scenes for version 3 now it's 6/7 sex scenes in v 4 & 5.
If they went back to smaller, quicker updates would we actually be getting more content or would it just seem that way?
Now I just don't give a shit since hey the game is free and all. But I really don't get the patreon people. Do they not notice how bad the dev cycle has gotten?
Critcism is fine, but what we get is worthless spouting of opinions.where no matter what the creator does they will never, ever be criticized.
I'm stealing this. I might even make it my signature."I don't like this because..." = Criticism.
"I don't like this because, I think it would be better if..." = Constructive criticism.
"Waah, this dev's a crook!" = Worthless spouting of opinion.
