Just to clarify, he stated that they hasn't told their relatives about the exact nature of this job, only that they are doing remote job (devs are a married couple). Tax-wise, he is a freelance programmer as there's not a 'lewd games developer' section in Spanish tax system and that one is the most accurate (you can lie your friends but it wouldn't be smart to lie tax officers). As they are self-employed, each one of them are forced to pay around 300 bucks per month (at least) to the Spanish National Healthcare system so they don't need to pay hospital bills but don't have other benefits like paid leaves. All in all, as it has been said lots of times, they are earning above average salaries thanks to this game but they are nowhere near the point of getting rich with it. Ironically enough, releasing updates more often would boost their income, as I'm sure all these fine lads you met today in this forum wish.
Well, then what explains their slow pacing other than lack of motivation? because my point was the the possibility they have lack of motivation because all the reasons I listed.

They also have two children, one of which is less than two years old, and Pistachio had not one but two hip surgeries to deal with. So it's been a lot of IRL issues taking away from dev time. I'm not disputing it's taken them a long time to get v0.7 out, and I'm sure the devs would agree with me, but the idea that they're just being lazy or milking their patrons and getting rich is utter nonsense.

Bad planning, for one. Then they had their second kid back in October 2022, at the beginning of this development cycle, which slowed them down for many months. And Pistachio had to undergo 2 hip surgeries that also meant taking some time off. I don't think lack of motivation is an issue here. Considering the estimated amount of content promised, plus all those setbacks, the actual pace is very similar to previous updates.

I see, I didn't even know they got other child and also he had two whole surgeries, now I makes sense.

They deliver the daily progress of the game on discord. Day by day.
I dont know any dev who is documenting such detailed.

?? ABANDONED ??
Lmao... there is a good reason why you need to actually release fuggin updates to avoid the 'abandoned' tag on F95

I'm gonna have to try this at work sometime, the next time a VP asks me for an update on something I will send them a very pretty colorful snapshot of progress bars, but when they ask for actual files to see the progress I'll smartly respond "Let me cook!!!" Or, "I'll have you know my grandma's spleen just ruptured! ...Could you donate some money please?"

Thank you F95

I follow these progress bars almost since the very beginning. When the bars reach 100%, the devs deliver, for sure.

Some devs deliver a small update twice a month, others deliver a big one every few months. Whats wrong about that?
Does having big updates mean game is "abandoned" in between the updates?

When people love to talk they will do anything to achieve that. Especially with numbers. Oh the numbers and facts and truths...

You don't know that?

Last update was almost 2 years ago. By all accounts it qualifies as being abandoned. :)

I can only repeat myself:
No, I dont know that! (as long as they just deliver progress bars).
But I know after they deliver the finished update (short after having the bars at 100%). And I guess, everyone will know then.

So does magic nuts ( or anyone who makes such games) always have to make in game images from scratch? Like this? Because if that's the case I would say they are really working their ass of for making these games. I respect that.
Oh! i didn't know they post such videos, this is really nice, thanks for sharing!.

Daaaaaaang!

You just posted the second most interesting thing in this thread! (Xupuzulla still with the most eyeopening one :) )
First time the dev can be seen at work + moving brushes + time needed!!!! Wow!

That means one simple thing: Now it´s easy to calculate how much time was spent on the paintings in the update, one can easy interpolate how many paintings were made per week in the i guess 2 years till this update comes out.

If you slow the video down by the factor 8 then normal working speed shows up, easy to see when moving the brush and choosing in menus etc. That means that painting was finished in about 2 hours! While i think a talented painter with a vision, experience and determination could finish it easily in about 30-45 minutes, this is not the point here. If the dev works like that (and didn´t slow it down on purpose) its fair to count with 2 hours per painting.

Meaning if the dev was honest that they´re working full time on it, then that should amount to around 80-100 unique paintings per months --- emphasis on UNIQUE, not like just moved the hand position a little bit on the next painting where most of the background, body position etc. is the same or used some copy/paste tricks from another painting.

So no matter what you think of the dev, an honest judgement of their work ethic can be made once the update is out.

It wont be me, but somebody will count the unique paintings and then we´ll know if the dev was honest or if he was misleading people.

Well anyways, as i said, very interesting video, finally something with substance. Thumbs up from me.

Edit:
Ooops, i just saw Art is clocked at 310, hmmmmm......... judging by that my former assessment that an update should take 3-4 months was a very good guess!
