That would be better aimed at Summertime Saga. The release of 0.6 Rosa and start of 0.7 Gamira started after development of Summertime Saga's Tech Update but What A Legend is now at 80.4% but Summertime Saga is at 82% despite the extra time they have had. To give dates 0.6 Rosa was released July 2022 and Summertime Saga's Main Story Part 3 (not counting "pre-Tech Update" patches) was released March 2021. So despite development starting 16 months sooner What A Legend is about to overtake them on the progress bar.

So a 2 person husband and wife team working full time and having a baby in the middle of developing the largest content patch for What A Legend yet is progressing faster then Dark Cookie's 7 person team.

That is really unusual. It sounds like either your game folder or appdata folder is either set to read only, or hidden, but that is just a guess. You could try moving the folder, and trying again.
You could also check the save folders and see if either of them have saves or if they are read only, write protected, or hidden.

Weekly report 175
Hi, everybody.
I hope you've had a great week and are ready to enjoy your weekend. Here's a summary of our work since the last report.

Chestnut:
She wanted to start drawing the sex scenes but got busy with one of the more complicated and multi-stage cutscenes, which took up most of her time. Many of the cutscenes that are done will require edits later (in addition to different variations often involving sprite expressions), but their main art is progressing well.

Pistachio:
I posed several dialogues (part of larger events) and made some changes to the code as well, adding interactions and elements to make longer conversations more engaging.
A note about the posing tasks of Gomira's second quest: although I have posed a lot of dialogues from Gomira's second quest, I feel like I still haven't reached the halfway mark for the scenes of that quest since I have mostly focused on the more straightforward stuff to keep things moving. I'm clarifying this because if you have been checking the progress tracker, you will have noticed that I have been needing more posing tasks than I had estimated.

Next week's plan:
Chestnut wants to continue work on some of the earlier cutscenes (and possibly record them), and if all goes well, she will start the base for at least one of the sex scenes.
I will try to get the dialogue I'm working on in a satisfactory shape, and then pose it and move on to the next text.

This one is really conflicting for me. I love the art style overall, and it seems like it has a lot of promise. On the other hand, it's way too nicey nice and your choices mean squat so I am a little confused... What is the point in having it be this open world setup where you can go where you want when you want and choose what to do, when in reality you are forced to follow one set path? The whole "don't worry which choice you click the story will just force you to make the right choice anyways" aspect is mind-boggling to me. If that's how you feel then why bother, why not just remove the dialogue choice boxes and have it be like an interactive book?

One thing I think the game sorely lacks is some darker paths available to the player. For example:

The way they are currently implemented, though, devs think they add some humor touches and break the click-click-click boredom of a kinetic novel. Some players find it funny to pick an option and try to guess how that choice is going to be reverted.
• Dark themes/kinks -> sorry, just not dev's cup of tea. Look for that content somewhere else because that's not going to change.
• Character's content -> the way the game was developed, some characters were introduced with a brief quest, like Maple or even Holly. The original idea was to release smaller updates that would have expanded those characters' arcs little by little. However, after 0.3 patrons voted for larger updates focused just on one character each, and that's why Myrtle and Rose have already a full story while Maple's current content ends abruptly. It's still planned, but it just has to wait.

I just found this game semi-recently, so not really practical to go back and read >500 pages of old posts.

Not that it might have helped for this particular issue, but since you are new, I will point out that the site has a decent search feature, though to get the most out of it, you will want to go to your profile page, and change your search settings, so that they sort them by date. This will make your results a lot more relevant to what you are looking for.

Yes, I get it - the guy meant other erotic games. Well, I can wholeheartedly recommend Pale Carnations, which is tonally the polar opposite of "What a legend" but the quality shines through. If you're into lighter romps, I can suggest "My Pig Princess" and "A house in the rift". Your mileage may vary, of course.

But even so, if you're only interested in porn, these games will last you some hours, and then you're back to square one. Erotic games are a niche, quality erotic games are a niche of a niche. That's why the sanest approach is not to keep track of them minute by minute, but to savour them. They're a delicacy, in a sense - and I personally wouldn't want an entire meal to be made by delicious desserts.

This is a great take. And it's a great point that 2023 has been an amazing year for gaming... we're really spoilt for choice so it's hard to get too worked up about a free game taking a while.

As others have pointed out, the wholesome tone is definitely intentional and very much appreciated by fans. There are so many dark and edgy porn games that verge into "woman abuse simulator" territory. There are so few that manage to balance horny, fun, and light hearted like WAL. Let us have this!

As for more plot choice... I am hoping that after the Nuts (devs) have concluded the main story arc, they will work to make it possible to do more things separately as "side arcs" separate from the main story, so you truly can take things at your own pace. Each girl will still have a set "route" with a correct approach and a few wrong approaches, but you could at least conquer them in different orders.

Btw I saw a post about this, so I'll just say that it's always a trap when a dev asks you if you'd rather have longer releases over quick releases. Because it almost always end up in this scenario.

Honestly Patreon & Early Access on Steam are so heavily abused, a better system is needed... Both platforms tend to result in a whole hell of a lot of devs releasing a cool alpha prototype that they worked their ass off on, but then they start getting money and magically lose motivation to develop at the same pace and quality they were operating on to create the initial release.

Patreon in particular is such a bad system... it incentivizes devs to drag out game production if you think about it. Imagine if you hired a contractor to redo your kitchen, and instead of saying I will pay you $30k for the job, you said "I will pay you $1,000 per day of work" ... can you imagine what would happen? Yeah they would take fucking forever to finish the job. It's human nature.

To be clear I am not saying that is necessarily the case with this dev - I am not familiar enough with this particular game and dev to suggest that, but it is very clearly what has happened with a lot of these games.

I think a far better system would be something like, determine a fair price for the WHOLE GAME when complete, say $50 or $100 or whatever. Then split that up into X number of releases. Suppose we said the final game price was $50, and the number of releases will be 10. Develop a roadmap showing what will come in each chunk. Then as each version is released, the dev gets a payment for that release (in this case $5 per customer.) But of course Patreon and similar systems are not set up that way, because just like the devs, they just make more money the longer the process drags out because they are getting a % cut.

Well, that is what Patreon is for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Patreon was born because someone realized they could bring back the Patron/Artist relationship of ancient times where a wealthy patron sponsored an artist lifestyle in the exchange of reputation and eventually, hopefully, if the artists quit chasing muses and work get some art at some point. It's not meant to be a quid pro quo thing, if you don't like how slow the artists is being, just stop supporting them.

The trouble with this is, not everyone wants releases on the same schedule and not everyone's gonna be willing to take the dev's word that "trust me, each chapter will be worth $5". Some people who are happy to pay $2/month would not want to pay $20 in a lump sum even if it winds up being less. Patreon lets everyone set their own engagment level. And you can always just end your support if you don't feel progress is fast enough. The site makes it very clear that your sub doesn't entitle you to anything.
