And burn out is a thing. They might treat as. 9-5 job now (idk) but creative work is grueling. Especially on a potentially never ending project. Could you imagine if JK was still writing Harry Potter books for more money? Passion dried up in pursuit of income. Even JRR Martin seems to be done with his series. The survival of every game depends on how much money it makes, i'm pretty sure that's the case with this game too so it's hard to say how the game will look in 10 years.
The problem is that every update seems to get longer and longer with every new release and i doubt people would enjoy waiting more and more every single time.
But i kind of agree with you, at the speed this game goes i don't see it ever getting finished and 10 years is a long mark that would most likely won't get it.
I rather have new updates, Summer's Gone hasn't had a progress in story for a long time, even the last update was just a rework of the first few chapters. It's this game and I think Ocean's games like Summer's Gone and WIAB that I see there being a decent chance of still being worked on in a decade from now (if they continue to do so).
Game's truly great.I love this game, one of the best I've found
Honestly, I knew production would slow down when the devs said they just had a child. To the people who don't know what that is like-- that is essentially telling everyone that you decided to take another fulltime job on top of the production. It's exhausting and endless and there is probably going to result in updates doubling in time frames. This game is nice, but I wouldn't expect it to be a consistent source of content anymore. They made their choice and we should respect that.As much as I love this game, I don't see wal surviving for a decade, and a decade is what it needs to even come close to finishing the game at this point. The map is massive, the character cast is massive, and each one needs a year to do. It's not happening.
I always have to smile when i read how you guys convince each other that the delays has to do with the child or the accident the dev went through :-DHonestly, I knew production would slow down when the devs said they just had a child. It´s funny that your type of comment is part of the cycle too! :-D Your last sentence is nothing i haven´t red a dozen times.I visit this thread once every few months... it feels like you all are just going in circles... constantly the same exact arguments... Don't you all have better things to do than bitch and moan about a free game?
Is it really important? There comes an update or not. Lots of games have updates, and lots of great games get abandoned. We can only hope there comes a new update soon. It´s funny that your type of comment is part of the cycle too! :-D Your last sentence is nothing i haven´t red a dozen times.
There was an very interesting convo going on in this thread a couple of months ago with one member posting very very interesting pictures about the topic. I guarantee you way more interesting, riveting stuff than you normally see here in this thread.
It was in comparision and related to this game but because it was about another game too everything got erased..... all comments relating that topic the pictures, everything. It´s like somebody "influential" got jealous or whatever, maybe afraid the conclusions made were true and very eye-opening and "snitched" to the mod who then erased everything, when a "warning" to stay on topic would have been more than enough.
In my opinion it even was on topic and related, but whatever we´re left with the random incoming of:
"This game is so great"
"When is the next update coming"
"This poor dev has kids, be understanding, 2 years between updates is ok, the quality is so good. The next update will take 5 years that´s ok too. Didn´t you know the dev had a kid be a little unterstanding. The quality is so good, did i mention he hurt himself and also had a kid i forgot to tell you," :-D
Have fun in this thread on the next 100 pages with the variations of these 3 sentences. Echochamber wanted :-D
The really interesting posts get erased.
Name at least five WEGsand lots of great games get abandoned.
What is a WEG ?Name at least five WEGs
83% of the next update, not of the whole game, looking at the map, they could go on for years...You know, with the amount of effort and content already in the game, no, with 3/4th of that, the creators could have made a complete game and everyone would have loved it unanimously. Their only fault was that they were a bit too starry eyed, creating a huge overworld map with named places, giving Myrtle and Rose so many scenes that other storylines would feel incomplete without just as much content.
The amount of stuff they have to make now for shepherd girl, mirror girl, Waldo's wife, the princess, the sex worker, the orc, to only name the already introduced character, there's no way they are 83 percent done.
