I am under great confusion here, people are talking about the game being developed yet this was slapped with an abandoned tag? Its been years since the last update, so has this been dropped or?
Okay, since people can't get things unless they are directed directly at them, and will ignore the comments before them, I will say this again...
YES, the game is still in progress, you can check their site, but this site has an arbitrary rule that any game without an update gets the abandoned tag, no matter how much work is being done.

We've been hearing this for years now and I'm just starting to wonder.
Are these drawn 2D games a lot more intensive to make than the 3d Ones?
Because if we look at the top 3d games like Eternum, Manor, Headmaster etc, we are getting content every few months.
This is a very high quality game, I enjoyed it very much.

It's not, they just wanted to enter the Guinness Book of Records, with most made up excuses...
Those comparings about release times are a little bit difficult to answer, e.g. teamsize, game engine and art style makes a big difference. On some games even a bugfix would be called an update, likewise a small update with only few images can't be compared to a full arc based update.
But back to the initial question: Generally speaking 2d art is more labor intensive than 3dcg e.g. a big scene change would need a full redraw in 2d when you can literally change the scene easy in 3d and send the result to the render PC.
Another thing would be the use of pre-made models and scenes in 3d, a lot of devs are using pre-made models/scenes and modify them slightly), the dev time for updates will increase drastically when they would need to create the model/scene from scratch.
You can notice such things if you look closely at the mentioned games, a lot of models/scenes look very similar.
There would be a lot more to write but you get the drift.
And in case of the very long dev-time for the WAL update please don't forget the IRL-problems the dev's had suffered from.

More than a year for an update with a studio which makes like €6,853 a month? Damn. Sorry for the people who wait for this.
Thing is, art has been done for a while. Its not the art holding it up, its literally everything else. The art might be harder to make compared to 3d games, but its not running its own damn custom engine or whatever, its in fucking renpy. So these bullshit excuses that each individual frame of each individual scene has to be drawn and folded over 1000 times fall through, its just laziness in programming
