When do you give up on playing a game?

I've recently found myself giving up on games that i've put a lot of time into playing. Many updates in that i've been following for a year or more. I can push through mediocre plots and subpar writing if I find a character really attractive. What really kills it for me is bad sex scenes. I need more than a looped animation or slide show then given an option to replay the animation or move on to a cumshot. I need some dialog or dirty talk or variety in the sex. Some build up of some kind. If i like a story i'll put up with bad sex even. At that point I'm just playing for story but if the story is so so you gotta have good sex.

So do you ever give up and decide a game just isn't worth your time any more?

Of course it happens that I lose my interests in certain VNs for similar reasons. Often because the VN has run its course and should have ended with some dignity, but instead it keeps going on, ignoring the main story (if it ever existed) and introducing even more LIs so it will never finish. :cautious:

If I find myself just clicking away the text and don't get at least good and sexy scenes as compensation, I usually delete the game.
Maybe I visit it later in a more complete state, just for the sexy scenes, but that depends on how interesting the designs and the sexy scenes are.

For any game regardless of genre my one hard-set rule is if it's boring at the start I'm uninstalling it.

As a form of entertainment I expect it to be entertaining, and while I'd prefer it to be entertaining from front to back, I'll at least give it 15 to 30 minutes to hook me in then I'm done. If I'm feelong really generous I might see if it stops being boring by the end of an hour, but that's my outside limit. And once I conclude a game is boring I won't go back no matter how many people start screaming about how amazing it is if you just give it more time.

In the porn games from here (or elsewhere across the net) I still stick to my "don't be boring rule", but, straight up, I play these porn games for the porn scenes so if it's a slow burn where you need to wait hours before any action happens? Uninstalled. Porn scenes are low effort, lame, or boring? Uninstalled. Porn scenes sprinkled out once every 30+ minutes? Uninstalled.

I'm aware J can be pretty finicky with my tastes, but I know what entertains me. And all that slow build up teasing shit or a single frame/slide show/2 second loop with minimal grunting. It's boring. And I refuse to play boring games, so....

Usually I just finish what I downloaded even if it sucks, most adult games are extremely short anyways and if the plot is too dumb I just skip through most of the dialogues.

The only thing that actually makes me drop a game is when they have too many bugs, in that case I stop playing to wait for a future version that will hopefully have fixed those bugs.

-When it is an rpg with a lot of repetition
-A generic scroll roll
-When it's poorly written (If it's a comedy, it has to be a good comedy- If it's an NTR, it has to have a good story)

I'm not mentioning that having good art is a must as this is the default reward for advancing and completing the game, but there are times when the gameplay or the story is entertaining enough that this complements each other.

I've given up on a few games I once enjoyed for various reasons.

Sometimes storylines get boring, sometimes LI's don't interest me.

There are one or two devs I ust really don't fucking like on a personal level and yes there are actual reasons but that's neither here nor there. Point is, I dropped their games because fuck them to the moon.

There are a hell of a lot of games around, sadly that means there is a lot of overlap. What I mean there is how many incest based games have you played where the guy came back from 5 or so years abroad. He has 2 sisters, one younger than loves him and the older sister that hates him. Dad is either dead or deadbeat and the mother sees her sons cock and starts drooling over it ... the mother, who's had children and knows what sex is, starts acting like she's never seen cock before. It's all weird. It's all been done to death and it's fucking boring.

Now it's guy wakes up from a coma with amnesia.

It's like some of these devs don't have an original fucking idea between them.

Then there are major disappointments for which I shall present to thee, Radiant. First update was amazing. So much emotion and hit right in the feels. It was set to be an emotional rollercoaster and the hype was real .... then, 2 more updates followed. 2 more, generic as fuck updates. From what started as an emotionally charged drama ..... became bland dad wants to bang daughters number 44857 with ridiculous as fuck plot points.

I can forgive a lot, as there is a wide spectrum of AVNs, and most have a reason to play them.
I value story first with a fair amount of sexy time in between.
I rate music and sound effects over animations, and rarely finish a game with no sound at all, it just seems really lazy to me.
If a game has good story but blueballs the heck out of you, I will usually drop it. Deluca*Cough* Family *Cough*.
Need some porn in my porn game, but not a huge fan of mindless fap fests.
Probably biggest reason I drop a game is how long the development cycles become. If it takes more than 2 years and no end in sight, I will maybe come back if it ever gets completed.
Incest is my favored fetish, but if it makes the Mum into the Holy Grail and takes years to bang her, I'm not sticking around for that.
I will play almost any game that actually gets finished, but if its utter crap story or translation, I probably won't finish it.

Anything could trigger me enough to drop, let's just say i have rather high standards which i refuse to lower no matter what.
Story, gameplay, bugs.. even the way the dev had chosen to monetize their game could be a cause.:coffee:

I give up on games for less I am not exactly your average consumer. I'm selective to say the least I drop any game that has bad writing or animation, other times I will play a game like Corrupted Kingdoms for ages because I got hooked on the damn thing for reasons I dont understand. thinking back on it I think it not about the sex scenes or the story quality its what I call the cycle, if the game play or story cant loop back around to the point your want it never finishes a cycle and ends up feeling stuck, too much game too little porn or no game just porn gets boring because of this. So yes I give up on all games that have a bad game play cycle

One guaranteed turnoff is a harem story turning out to be a bait-and-switch, and you're forced to pick one girl. It's fine if there's a little extra you have to do for the reward, but juggling relationships is enough work on its own.

When the MC busts out the gimp suits, whips, and buttplugs for no rational reason... I'm stepping away. Extreme kinks should be forewarned and optional. (I feel like Ravager has one of the best approaches on this, you can just leave things off rather than having to dance around them in the story.)

Given how few are gay games, I'm not so picky. One inmediate turn off, is underage characters (or shota ones) appearing from nowhere, and not being able to avoid having sex with them. That warrants an immediate uninstall. On a similar vein, femboys and twinks thrown at me without being able to avoid them can cause me to drop off. Fortunately, I avoid games with those in the first place.

Sometimes I skip updates if the content doesn't interest me, but I can get back anytime.

Only 4 games i have been playing repeatly.
Lab rats 1 and 2.
Superpowered.
Free cities.

I used to play corruption but i got tired of the trigger hunting.
The gaurdian has good porn sense and thank god we can skip most of the story but after reading the story i just stop caring.
Corrupted kingdoms is same as the gaurdian with the added downside of gameplay that doesnt add anything but timewasters.
The sex scence are good but the story is awefull.
I dont play lusttown(what that the name? The one where an ugly get gets a free plastic surgery and reqruited into an evil whoring orignastion) anymore because the grind is aweful and i didnt like the story.
I will praise hentai highschool+ but i stop playing it because i played it to death.
Same with slavemaker.
Take over protaganist falls for the swich drink trick.
Even billy from superpowered isnt that stupid.
And atleast with billy i can pretend billy is just a moron.
I can name take over character and i am not that stupid.
Also i dont drink coffee.
Speaking of which i wish games stop making drinking beer manditory.
I am a devouted anti acholic.
I dont drink.
Absolute Power Corruption i quit because of trigger hunting.
Same as nano control.
Where is a tip:
Look for what continue's the story isnt good gameplay.
If that is your gameplay just make a visual novel.

There are many games i quiet because they dont have good gameplay and story.
Sturgeon's law is real.

Ain't nobody got time to play games. It causes PC to cause more heat, and it is already hot as hell.

Usually I'll download a game based on the screenshots and tags, maybe the description. And usually I'll give a few minutes to an hour to hook me in terms of how it handles the fetishes that are in the tags (or at least sets up something promising that keeps me engaged). If the game's idea of "corruption" is the MC can't stop thinking of cock after being assraped in an alley, into the bin it goes. Bad writing can also lead to deletion, though normally I catch this in the description and screenshots. Gameplay matters too, though my standards for smut games aren't high.

I lose interest when the game can't show me new things. For example, when the game is vanilla and only shows more sex scenes with a different camera angles, and this time it's on the beach instead of in the bedroom. I get bored with that very quickly.

Also, I feel like the nsfw scenes lose their impact when the relationships between the characters stagnate. If I'm not interested in the characters, I might as well watch regular porn.

There are a few different ways that I can give up. We'll assume that this excludes games that I try out and just dislike right away.

The first would be a game where I liked how it looked in previews, like the interface, graphics, ect and am enjoying playing it, but then suddenly one or more of the girls looks really, really young. No way, I'm out, not going back. I had several like that recently where i loved everything else about it, but that's just not somewhere I'm going. This is also the case with violence, angry or hostile MCs, too much BDSM and others. I want consensual, hot, messy sex between adults.

Another would be a game where I love the content, but the interface is really frustrating. There have been a few where I so badly want it to be better, where I love the girls and the setup and the story but its painful to force myself through the weird interface that the dev has created. I love good sandbox games, but sometimes a dev will go way out in left field and try to be unique and it really backfires. The UI needs to be player friendly.

And the other would be where the dev changes the focus or style of a game mid way through, and it goes from something that I really liked to being something that I don't. There have been a few where I absolutely loved the first few chapters/sections and was excited about where it may lead, and then for whatever reason it went in a very different direction and lost me.

Uninteresting dialogue by uninteresting characters. Even some of the supposedly good VNs are guilty of it. I actually don't care if the porn is animated or in stills. I can usually let my imagination do the rest of the work. Quality of illustrations and renders are also not super important. Of course graininess is an issue, and I want to atleast see some effort put into the visuals, but its not usually bad enough to make me drop the game.

Sandbox is also generally not fun. There are some games that are rated highly that I've tried that have sandbox as a primary mechanic, and I'm just not interested. It becomes an on-the-rails choose a story type game that I have no interest in playing.

Lack of interactivity is also huge for me. I like my porn games to have an element of interactivity, such as with me influencing the story through character action. I enjoy games that let me decide how perverted I want the character to be, and how the people surrounding the character receive this behavior. If I don't see that, I usually drop the game in 30mins or so.

Re-reading this thhread and one thing became apparent to me. I completely forgot to mentoon characters and relationships in my first comment.

There are quite a few games I've completely dropped because of characters I was annoyed with or the narrative forcing you into a relationship I didn't like in order to progress the main plot.

When updates are slow/on-hold or the game is super early in its cycle i.e v0.000000001
if the story sucks or isnt pleasing and is just a bunch of random cg sex scenes im skipping it
