WiAB Chapter 4 - Dev Log #24
Hello,

With this Dev Log, we return to the old Bi-weekly Wednesday Dev log schedule.

So... after the last log, some complained that I didn't give as much info regarding the render count, etc.

I heard ya and from now on I will ban everyone who asks me that.

Of course, I'm just kidding and will, from now on, provide a bi-weekly render count + a total.

The reason why I stopped doing it is because a lot of expectations come with them.

The irony is, no matter how many renders I add, it's always too little.

People go ham with the conspiracy theories if there's a discrepancy between two weeks.

I could post the exact render count every week, and people would still find a way to uncover "the truth".

It's exhausting.

However, I like to be transparent, and a render total is a part of it.

The last total render count was mentioned on the 19th of December, just short of Christmas. I took it easier over Christmas and created all the Christmas Treats.

I'm currently at ~3600 WiAB renders.

12 days ago, I said I'd count how many renders I do between Dev Logs to see how much the Workstation improves productivity.

I won't count two of these days because the first day was already over, and I took one day to care for some personal relationships.

Previously, I'd do and render around 20-40 daily renders and zero animations. (Animations would lock down the PC for the entire day.)

So, in 10 days of work with the new Workstation, I created AND rendered out:

641 still renders

7 animations.

It went from:

~300 to 671 images

0 to 7 animations.

I didn't completely reach my goal of 70 renders a day. (Average of 64).

However, new environments and giant scenes make this impossible if you want to maintain quality. Sometimes, I can only set up 20-40 images, while other times, I reach 80-100.

From now on, I aim for 70 renders a day, but I won't beat myself up if it's "only" 40-50. I still have my quality to maintain and improve.

The workstation peaked at 78 images a night the other day, and with that, it outperforms me, which is fantastic.

My old Workstation will render animations until they're all done.

Keep in mind that not all renders are exclusively for WiAB.

Chapter 4.
This is going to be the last log before I start postwork. I still have the last scene to complete, and I have a bunch of animations to do.

But we're almost there.

As always, there won't be a release date until it's 100% confirmed. Steam will also have to test the game before the release, but I'll keep you updated on that front.

Today, I'm including more than one preview because if I enter postwork during the next two weeks, I won't show any more previews until the release.

That is good news. A update closer to 4k renders and he will be entering post work still this month a March release seems likely. About the previews curious about the forest one and why Scarlet is so angry

Scarlett also looks her age now - the skin around her throat, and the crows feet actually make her a much more believable character. I don't remember the arm tatt though, but given Joe is in a gang, I'm also not 100% surprised.

I remember old Scar, who looks like Vic aged on meth, then there was the Scarlett model in a preview that looked like Amber's visitor that Ocean scrapped (and I guess reused for SG as ...AMber's visitor). I was comparing against what I remember in the current chapters. BUt now that I look back it was there, just seems a LOT more detailed and obvious, mayb the lighting? ANyway, it's positive to me if she looks her age. Both she and Helen had abnormally good skincare routines I guess....

She had the tatto on the OG too, always found odd the contrast of suburban wife with a sleeve tatoo. But yes she looks more mature and this is a good thing

Before it was much more muted, more like a henna thing, but we couldn't see much, maybe she was half way through and now is unhappy that it's so colourful and she can't go back?

My guess is she's unhappy with whatever went on with Kat. Simple, she found out Kat skipped college, difficult, she walked in on Kat and William.

I don't know, it always stood out to me but maybe Ocean trinked with it. That is a good guess but the house does not seems like the Zane house, the courtines are Pink, not that it matters really but seems a new environment and the Kat scene looked like the Zane house

No matter where it is, she could explode at William for messing with Kat, simply because. But yeah, it could be many things. If it's a court house, maybe a parole hearing for Joe? Or something? That would make sense based on William not having had enough time to get in trouble. But who knows?

I agree, does not really matters. I thought of a Church at first, the seats reminded me of one, but seems unlikely. Court house, maybe but the cortines just looks like a house for me, and I think last devlog showed Miru in this enviroment too.

Ah right gotcha, I only thought of the court because of your word, silly mistake of mine. We've not seen the breakfast room William and Katie have breakfast on their own in either, could be it's Leia's house, could be it's a different room we've not seen yet, could be Scarlett's house, there's not much to make of it. If that's Dylan or maybe (lucas?) behind, he's not dressed up though.

Seems like Dylan to me - too thin to be Lucas at least - yeah, there is no point in trying to guess where they are. I find the fist preview much more interesting but also does not tell much beside Leia doing Leia things

So if Ocean was doing on average 30 renders/day on the old workstation as mentioned in the devlog he should already be at well over 11k renders for both games already
