Why are H-games so cruel?

Don't get me wrong i'm a horny little bastard, I'm here after all, but why all the abuse?, I don't want to be cruel to pretty girls, I want to be nice to them. I've only ever found a few H-games i could stomach (call me a pussy), I just don't have it in me to be as cruel as most require. Life with a slave was nice, one of the few where you don't have to be evil or cruel. I do agree here. I'm not a big fan of corruption or rape and the like so my choice of games has been quite limited.

I tend to stick to VN's, most of those have decent stories and characters.

The stuff from Tlaero and Mortze is fantastic. Both story and characters are on point in all their stuff, even their early works are decent although the lack of a save function hurts. They fixed that for the Elsaverse games and Pandora, those are fantastic.

The 3 games i've got in my sig are decent for story and character. Teachers Pets does have a drug side to it but you can also go the romance route. Normally with the drug thing I would have left it but the writing was hilarious, I mean that as in he's genuinely funny not so bad it was funny. That and we had a pages long debate over toilet roll and a blocked toilet cock blocking us.

Dana has a story and characters i've enjoyed and is, probably, my favourite VN outside of the Elsa/Pandora ones. That's closely followed by Innana that I recently got into but got quickly hooked on.

The other side I struggle with are games like Road Trip, Anna's Exciting Affection and things along those lines where the woman is so fucking moronic she ends up getting blackmailed into sex for the most idiotic of reasons.

Well, as most of the games with female protagonist (damn, almost every) 99% of time you're with assholes who like to abuse you. Aside for real VN games where normal romance with a high quality plot is normal it's barely possible to find female protag in straight on erotic game without such things.
With male protag it's much easier but still hard. Gomly gave a few fine examples (except for Dana imo - for me it's quite silly). If you're looking for a romance look for japanese Visual Novels. Many of them is in english and they're mostly like that.

It is, like I said I usually end up sticking with VN's and most of those are varying degree of love story.

Although I suppose I did bend the truth a bit around that one. I can deal with mild corruption it's mind break shit along the lines of Corrupting Hanah/Katie I don't like.

I see. It's funny how VNs differ from western games. I wouldn't even call them erotic games as usually sexuality in them is just a way of perceiving romance in Japan and they're focused on a story. Dreaming of Dana, Pandora, Dreaming with Elsa, Redemption for Jessika, Finding miranda and things along those lines.

I haven't gone through many Japanese games on account of me not understanding their culture at all and the whole honorifics thing just sails over my head. Those kun, senpai, san and all that jazz means nothing to me.

It annoyed me enough in Persona 5 so I try to avoid them.

Oh, I see. So you game range is quite limited I would say. I wouldn't consider them VN at all but I see what do mean. In comparison to others there's only few of them. Sadly there aren't many projects like Pandora anymore.
Japanese Visual Novels are mostly just a type of a game like RPG but they usually have some erotic in them so that's why even the most famous are banned on west (Fate/Stay Night). VN can easily take more than 100h of just reading so that's why those english games are hard to be considered as VN. Honorifics are just a language aspect. They're usually not important and you don't need to care about them. kun - someone close (usually male) or younger, senpai - more experience (usually upperclassman) san - normal honorific which is usually used (doesn't mean shit usually). It's like 5-6 of them they use all the time. When they talk without honorifics it's usually means they're on a lovers relationship level as it feel intimate. Tho whole japanese culture is really different than our western one so that's fine if you don't like it. For me some VNs are much better than books or movies so I will always respect that.

Not to rain on this parade, but this thread is pretty much the "Why so many Assholes" thread . If you go there, some folks made points that covered this. Part of it has to do with the Zeitgeist, part of it has to do with the limitations of the State of the Art. I guess this will only change when folks start rewarding classic storytelling with their pockets . My Sweet Neighbors shot to my top two, just because there's no incest there , at least not yet. @Gomly1980 You've probably already come across it given the VN's you mentioned but have you tried Brad's Erotic Week? Another game in the same vein as Tlaero and Mortze's games e.g. romance and seduction not just straight up sexfest. Also Tlaero and Mortze are motoring along developing the next (and I dearly hope not the last) else-verse game Saving Chloe. Lessons of Passion's catalogue is pretty good to, no incest or extreme corruption to be found with them.
