There are better games out there with better romance systems. Hell, some of those games are also made by Bioware.
I'm not. The romance system in ME games is literally "talk to a character 5 times" and bam! You've now romanced them.
In ME1 you could literally romance characters BY ACCIDENT, simply by talking to them. Like talking to Ashley and Liara several times got them both jealous and they forced you to pick between them, even though you didn't initiate any romantic relationship with either before that point.
Bioware made several other games with better romance systems, like BG 1&2, Kotor 1&2, DAO, and even the MMO they made SWTOR has a better romance system.

Second jep it's a fetisch and that is the reason some games have it.
But i have read lots of the replay here in this thread and i see that there are more User like me that think that there are a lot poor made VN that only have lots of sexscene but aktual not realy a story. i Know its hard to write one AND fit it into a VN, specialy if the DEV(s) more like Artist and focus more on there (sex-)Fantasy the anything else.
How ever, there are still lots of game/VN here to be found that are good, so for every DEV just go on trying

Alright, i never intended to ever comment about anything on these forums as my intentions for this website was just to be a passive visitor, just coming in here to check out interesting games to play, download them and leave just like that. I'm not exactly a social type of person, but having come here and read every single comment made on this discussion and not helping myself but feel engaged about thr subject matter, i feel like i should throw in my 2 cents as well. So, here it goes:
I enjoy rape fantasy a lot, always had throughout my life, and while i'd often stop and reflect upon this so many times along the ride -and sometimes still do- about it's moral implications, i'd like to say that nowadays i have pretty much come to peace with accepting it as simply being a part of me.
Anyways, my love for rape fantasy is greatly rooted into my love for horror - particularly Survival Horror, my personal favorite genre of fiction. When i was only 6 years old, my father bought me a PS1 along with 7 games, and one of them was nothing other than Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Despite me being way too young to play a game of this caliber, my parents were always very liberal (and responsible too) about me and my brother trying out all sorts of things, with al the proper education and supervision that responsible parents would bring ot the table. Despite being scared shitless to play the game at first, having to force my brother - who is older than me by several years- to play the game for me, i also couldn't help the feeling that i was enjoying the game immensely. Not long after this emblematic experience of my life, my mother, a massive horror buff herself, pushed me heavily into all things concerning horror, and not before long i became a major horror fan, for life.
And just where exactly rape fantasy relates to Survival Horror is that it mostly preys on the exact definition of what horror/survival horror entails. When i play a Rape-Fantasy game like the UnHoly series of games for example, or just about any sidescroller hentai game you can think of, i am brought back to those days playing Resident Evil 3: Nemesis where Jill Valentine was being relentlessly pursued by Nemesis who had an incessant bloodlust for her, all while dodging several zombies and other monstrosities along the way who craved for her flesh. Only this time, in this *insert random rape survival game title here*, the monsters are not craving just my flesh - well actually they are, but not in the same a way a zombie would typically crave for someone's flesh in a typical horror scenario - but the same expectations of a horror situation here still applies. I am still roleplaying as some poor victim thrust into an unfortunate situation, i am still being stalked/pursued by evil things wanting to commit foul acts of evil upon my mortal existence, i am still feeling the thrill of the hunt/chase all the same. The exact circunstances might be different - in a non-hentai horror game, monsters typically want to eat you, or just make a bloody mess out of your remains, while in a hentai game, they want to rape and possibly impregnate you too - but at the end of the day, it's still the same thing, the same feelings, the same experience, so to speak.
This is also why i don't typically enjoy "purely rape" games as much - games like RapeLay for instance - where all you do in the game is just rape some unfortunate victim relentlessly for God knows how long. While i've played RapeLay in the past and still give it a swing every now and then, these kinds of games do not have staying power over me because there's little to entice me in those titles other than just the momentaneous satisfaction of rubbing one off to a quick sex scene without compromises/hurdles to get to one. IMO, a game is way more satisfying if there's also the thrill of the hunt, the thrill of the chase to be paired up alongside some sexy moments.
So yeah, thse are my two cents, i'm afraid. Whether you are a murderer or a rapist, wether you'll come for my blood, my flesh, my soul or my privates, i don't really care, so long you do come for me. Oh but keep it all on fictional grounds, will ya? Killing and banging is all fun and games when it's all make-believe, but these things are definitely awful in a real, tangible environment. Let's make it a fun time for everyone.
Oh and yes, maybe one could make a case about me being into submissive roles a lot more than a dominant one, and i do believe this to be true as well. Probably also a reason i'm not very good with women in the real world either despite having my fair share of candidates. Oh well, i'm just a human being with flaws like anyone else i suppose

Maybe it's because the vast majority of players are male and aren't typically super interested in romance but still want a challenge to overcome (and also don't want the heroines to all be a bunch of sluts who will drop their panties at the drop of a hat)?
I think it mostly comes down to the fact that it's a lot easier to make a blackmail scene or something than it is to do a seduction scene or build up to a plausible relationship that would naturally justify sex.
Blackmail is used WAY more often than I would prefer but I can understand why devs do it. I'm fine with rough sex, "no means yes", trading favors, etc though. Not a fan of actual force unless it's more along the lines of "token resistance" and she actually does want it but wants to feel like she's being overpowered. A lot of women like that as long as they actually want to have sex with the guy and feel safe with him.
Intoxication gets a lot of bad press, but personally I have no issue with it as long as they're conscious. If you choose to drink, you choose the consequences that come with it. Same goes for drugs (unless you didn't know you were taking them). I know I've done a lot of things I regretted after the fact (many of which required medical attention) while drunk but that's nobody's fault but my own. "Hold my beer!" Famous last words...
I would say my least favorite option is mind control. It's just incredibly lazy. Requires zero story, zero justification, etc. It's basically an "I win" button.

I think gradual mind control can be fun. Like where it's not full on instant control, which is just a boring 'I win' button like you said, but rather a lowering of inhibitions or a slowly escalating system of triggers/suggestions. I personally prefer the inhibitions route, because I'm not really turned on by straight up mind fuckery/shifting, and would rather have it known in the back of my mind the female character internally enjoys what's happening.
On the whole rapey topic, I think it just really depends. It's all fiction, it's all subjective and dependent on context, yadda yadda yadda. I personally don't enjoy most forced shit, but as a topic overall it can be hit or miss depending on the product.
That sounds more like corruption to me which I'm fine with as long as it's done well. Too often that ends up amounting to, repeat something she doesn't like until she does. Not a fan of that.
Just stumbled upon this thread years later and I'm baffled by the "doesn't know how to interact with human females" poll option and how many people voted for it, on porn game site, that has a good amount of rape, without naming any specific game like wtf, rape is an interaction that happens IRL a lot, statistically speaking, 75% of rape happens by people you already know, so you probably already interacted with the raped person if you are the rapist, so by that logic the the rapist already interacted with the woman, idk I guess they just voted for it cause it was funny.
