why is BB so popular?

People are different and some like 'this', some like 'that'.
I like Big Brother for the following reasons:
- it doesn't look cheap unlike a lot of other games
- I have a huge incest-fetish and find 95% of all porn games without incest just plain boring
- it is a bit challenging in the beginning (raising money and stats)
- the female models don't have ridiculous large tits unlike a lot of other games, they look 'normal'
- I prefer games that feature some sort of corruption and/or blackmailing
- choices; e.g. choose between your little sister or her classmate as a girlfriend, you can't have both
- it is not entirely linear (you can mostly decide what do you want to do next)
- many sex-events are repeatable and change only after you progress with the story
- the sex sequences could be improved but are still above average
Maybe there are even more reasons but that should cover it.
Fact is BB has managed to really divide the players into lovers and haters. I never experienced such a divide with any other game.

Are you talking about Big Brother? The aunt isn't married as far as I know (and wasn't cheating but blackmailed) or did that change at some point?

Well, I still stand by my professionalism remark, but I 100% agree with you that with all the money he is making, the game should be a lot better. He didn't improve the game since the first release (or at least the first time I played the game), neither the writing nor the gameplay nor the graphics. I was trying to find an explanation why the game was so successfull in the first place and I stand by it, he is one of the most professional developers out there. Many developers give the impression that they are just trying to make a game without any experience or knowledge, never had that impression with darksilver. If he "fell into this" like you said, then I don't know what happened to the other developers. However, for all the professionalism he has, he definitely lacks enthusiasm and passion, it's clearly just a job for him.
Btw, I would never deny that the game has MANY flaws, I definitely don't hate the game and I actually enjoy the monthly update, but the game could be so much better. But like I said in my original post, I don't think the other games are any better, in fact most are worse.

"Many developers give the impression that they are just trying to make a game" while I tend to agree that to many dev's go Patreon too soon with not enough time to learn and progress invested one gotta start somewhere right...as a hobby for example until it's good enough to be promoted and supported.
The most likely reason behind his success for me is the controversy you guys create with all these discussions about the game...the "buzz" alone creates interest and interest+talk translates into patronage in the adult game industry while there ain't many ways to promote ones game many good titles simply never get noticed turning popular games naturally into goldmines.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone can say he is the most professional developer after saying he lacks passion and enthusiasm and the game has awful writing, barely average CG's and terrible game design .. all someone else's words not mine.
None of those tell me the dev shows any professionalism, none. That tells me the dev is coasting by on free money and played by people that have sunk far too much time into it to ever admit that it's sub par.

The story is, ok I guess.
There is a lot of grinding in the gameplay.
The MC is one of the worst assholes among the many asshole MC's that populate porn games.
That last bit almost turns me off this game, but somehow the story is compelling enough to follow it.

i like all of your games you listed however i would replace Dreaming of Dana with Man of the house simply because i dont like the game play of dreaming of dana it does however have sexy girls and nice renders in it
my reasons for not liking big brother is well
the girls imo are ugly to what renders is in the game the girls honesty should really look closer to the girls of dreams and desire
the fact Big brother is a meme for well the cucking aspect
and the reason when you use cheats it doesnt help it actually makes it harder if thats possibly atleast for when i last played it
Different people have different tastes. Honestly, learn to accept that it's okay that others like what you don't like and your life will be better.
In my opinion some of the possible reasons that the game is so popular (aka. making bank) are
1. There are a lot of woman haters out there (they may be bitter from lack of attention, been screwed over, been controlled by women, be passive, etc. Overall wanting to get revenge/vent their frustrations, but can't in real life). They want to fuck women, but don't really like/love women (like hate sex. They want to fuck/dominate/humiliate/hurt the woman, not love/have a relationship with).
2. The dev is a patreon whore. He has no real love for the game, so he essentially whores it out to his patreons (essentially hands over control of the direction of the game for a price instead of having a planned story/direction)
3. The renders are decent. That's what originally drew me to the game. I guess some people may be drawn in by the visuals and then feel obligated to continue/stick with it because they want to see more of them, rather than truly enjoying the game.
I'm not a fan of the game (I think I abandoned it somewhere around v.0.6). What originally led me to trying it were the visuals, but I ended up feeling violated. I tried to stick with it for a while (1 or 2 versions), as I wanted to see more of the visuals, but I couldn't stomach it in the end.

As someone said earlier there is no way BB would be popular if it was released right now. The story is terrible. Like it made some sense, but after you get rid of Eric (which takes so goddamn long) where does it go? Nowhere. The renders are good, but with the support he gets it better be. The family is just awful and Max is even worse. Like I get being treated like shit at the start, but damn if I was Max I would gladly leave and just let Eric fuck them up till they finally catch on that he's banging all of them.

I do think it's a lot of sunk cost fallacy (in some it's the Patreon support for others it's the time they spent grinding in the game or a combination of both.) I just extract the renders these days and move on.

It's this. This, this, this 1000x.
The thing is, the game initially presents as quality, popular, has really good looking models and setup for the girls, everything seems great. Early in the game, it's pretty dense and constant with the content and easy to figure out. Then all the Eric bullshit happens, and if you're like many of us it's either "fuck you" and you put the game down, or you get locked in and want to get rid of the fucker. I was real mad the first time I played it and there wasn't a way to get rid of him, shit was infuriating.
But it's sunk cost. Later on into the game you really, really, really feel the grind, you really feel the RNG, you really start to resent the whole game. But the thing is, it's an expert bait machine. It manages to string together enough content or hints that there will be some if you keep going just perfectly. It keeps you around, and then before you know it you're hours deep just trying to get one fucking thing between the grind and random triggers.
It's perfectly designed to let you sink tons of time into it and think you're getting somewhere even if you aren't. After a while, you feel like you have to keep going to get somewhere, or just do it because you already spend that much fucking time on it even if you aren't fully enjoying it. Sunk cost to the max, glad I finally got sick of it by 0.11, funnily enough because of a wholly RNG scene I couldn't get.
Ive only recently found this game. It a good question. I absolutely love it but have no idea why. I agree (and dismiss) every criticism mentioned here, yet still find it addictive. I got to hate Eric that much I got protective as I am also in love with Alice. I downloaded it from somewhere else, found this site from the start up screen and have now it with all the mods as well. Im older than dirt and am easily amused might have something to do with it.

This game had a decent start..... Not entirely sure what happened to make it the train wreck it is now though.
But lets start with the story shall we ? BECAUSE IT"S JUST TERRIBLE.
1.) MC only making money by putting up webcams in the house. (wtf, well it's a porn game.)
2.)Ann starts dating her boss (Eric) only a week into her job right after getting a rather messy divorce.
3.)Eric now implements rules on her children within the first month or so also they talk about getting married ! ...(ok wtf is shit ? wouldn't she have ANY trust issues for awhile after the divorce despite the traumatic past explained by your Aunt Kira ONLY later in the game ?)
4.) MC learns that his Aunt is a porn star...shows intrest in the business.....but is ultimately shut out until you get Eric to fuck off. ( I think this right here pisses me off the most because this would've been the best angle to start the game.)
5.) The weird paralell dimension Oliva.....One way she's a free spirited nudist who likes pools....the other doesn't get to come over anymore.
6.) Alice is a sub....suddenly becomes a dom......(Kate was good looking so i didn't mind this one much, but it was weird.)
7.) Lisa's not stupid......how much sex ed does she need ?
8.) The fact that a horny 18 year old boy can't defeat the filters for porn on his laptop. Is he really that dumb when he spends all that time on it to learn new stuff ?
Overall the story is inconsistant and got more so as it progressed. I mean I know it's a porn game but for fucks sake at least try to make sense.

I love BB ... probably because this game start a year ago. Where there aren't many rival to this game, and this game had awesome render quality and nice Daz model. I guess new player/user of F95 won't liking BB that much since there's tons already of games with high quality render and good story telling. So I can't pinpoint why this game is the best than the other but this game is irreplaceable for me.
Also, I do love the teasing or prolonging the sex content with the Mom or Little Sister, because there's a lot of games that after I manage to fuck the Mom or Sister or whatever, the games felt empty ... no more thrill or "the hunt" sensation. Everything is good if still in cover ... like those toys/action-figure. But opened the case, the price is sinking & the value are drop.

my biggest problem with this game was its characters. especially the mc, Not only I couldn't relate to him but I hated him so much that I would've been more happy to lose the game preventing him from getting laid than actually trying to win.

Besides ICSTOR, ICCreations and a handful of others, there really weren't any quality projects out there.
Here is where Big Brother entered. Quality renders and a refreshing interface, similar to those made by LOP, that departed from the oversaturated RPG Maker bullshit. No wonder it got the hype that it got.
I'm not saying that I like the game, but at the time that it came out it had no competition.
