The reason I don't like people calling it a niche is that I know people will use this as argument to disincentive devs that make this type of content saying "No one likes it, is a waste of time that only 1% of people will like it". Well, you say that whenever we see that in galleries, is mostly to appeal to that niche, and I agree with you in that it's a niche, but still consider it a much bigger niche than many other, you'll agree with me in that futa isn't exactly an obscure fetiche barely known, but the examples you give me to compare their popularity with futa are either pretty vanilla (like big boobs) or something so vanilla by itself, that I can't help but think of them like vanilla as well (like witches or school girls). Overall I would say not everyone would like futanari the same way (for those that like it), mainly because it can follow different concepts:

I don't really have any personal investment in this topic, but that was basically how I conceptualized it. It was a bit less nuanced before. If we consider "gayness" as a spectrum, I just placed futa somewhere in between gay and straight content. But upon thinking about it some more, a person's motivation for seeking out the content would matter. So I made the 3 distinctions.

I'm actually interested in hearing about a convincing reason for the appeal of futa other than "sexy chick that can still bang girls with their dick," but one that is still straight in their minds. I mean... not that I need to be convinced for someone to enjoy it for whatever reason, but I'm just curious.

I disagree pretty strongly with using gay for anything "not 100% straight from a male view" cause I think that futa is even less popular with gays than with straight men and I don't think genitals are that decisive with sexual orientation, but trying to overlook that:

A big issue is dick size. It changes a lot how feminine or masculine a futa looks. Just look at the examples below. A male character is more likely to penetrate righty, but more likely to be penetrated by lefty; in the futa "canon" righty may not even be able to penetrate. Interesting how this thread resurfaced once more. I remember some answers that I found to be pretty convincing were buried around here, maybe by page 4 or so, so anyone who wants to read an in depth discussion on this subject can take an hour and a half or so to read the entire thread.
