Why is NTR so Popular?

Text of wall which I didn't read, but again. NTR is not popular, that's it. It has its niche, but it's not a popular genre to call it "popular". You could take out NTR from 90%+ games found on F95 and the game wouldn't lose its identity because NTR is just thrown in afterthought with only a couple of scenes. That's not an NTR game. Same as harem games with 2 girls licking each other in a couple of scenes, that does not make it a lesbian game.
Know of any successful NTR games with a focus on it and doing well on Patreon etc? Apart from some RPGM games (1-3) which make 2-3k on Patreon, and a couple of renpy games which make similar, and the seed of chaos which makes 10k which had a hard start of first 1-2 years? I wouldn't call this genre overwhelmingly popular and successful compared to harem/incest where even Honey select games surpass them or/are equal with a ratio of like 10:1+.
If I'm wrong, let me know. I don't play them (like sakura games who focus on NTR(is it sakura?), same plot every time), except maybe seed of chaos for nice art and corruption. That's my observation.

Agreed though, even Incest isn't popular by numbers alone. 45 pages of games have Incest in the tag search; that's just the pages count for games with the tag. There's maybe another 20 pages of games that have Incest, but don't have a tag. Basically subjective again. It's viewed as popular, because there is always someone talking about it in game threads. Of course that's someone or three and not the entire list of people commenting on a game. Financially, it's very popular but still depends.

Many games with an Incest tag and Incest as a patch option make plenty of money here, but that can also be due to the option and not just the tag. There's plenty of Incest games that don't make much money on patreon or subscribestar or have been abandoned due to not enough support. I'm not into Incest and my stance on Incest is the same as NTR, to each their own.

So it just really depends on what makes a fetish popular or not.

It's really not that complicated. You don't have to go into some "psychological, sociological, and paleo-anthropological" about it. It comes down to whether you self insert or not. I've always had this assumption, but made some polls recently to confirm it.

The first poll is a bit premature, but there seems to be a trend already. I know the sample size is pretty small at this time, but lets just say 40% of the overall porn game player base prefers to self insert. Now, I don't have numbers, but I will make an assumption that true masochists make up a very small percentage of the population. Thus, the people that self insert will overwhelmingly dislike NTR, since most people don't want bad shit to happen to them.

The poll aimed at NTR fans have a wildly different skew. Only 10% of them picked self insert. These people would be the true masochists. Note that even in a curated sample of just NTR fans, there are very few masochists that want to experience all the negative emotions in first person. 80% of them are third person viewers. I am usually one of those and the appeal is mainly in the corruption, depravity, and taboo nature, much like many other fetishes.

So coming back to the question of why NTR is so popular. I don't think this is a true statement. NTR fans would be a subset of the ~40% of the overall population that prefer to view games in third person. I'd make a guess that even third person viewers mostly don't like a really negative and fucked up story that is NTR. BUT. If we accept the statement that NTR is popular, it would be because it is taboo and depraved. Girls cheating and betraying their loved ones. This holds true especially for non-game media, since it's rather hard to self insert, or even identify as the cuck. If we ask "why is there a rise in cuckold porn videos?" The answer wouldn't be that there is a rise in the cuck population. It would be because people just find the fucked up stuff that goes on in these stories hot as a third person viewer.
