I wouldn't call it struggling, so much as calling it 'par for the course'.
Unless you are going to cheat in huge stacks of resources, you are going to be spending A LOT of time just harvesting resources to build anything massive.
The grind in this game is ... respectable.
Buildings can have a voracious appetite for resources (wood and stone), especially if you are trying to build anything more than a small 1 or 2 story building.
I posted a pic of a small Keep that I had built on an island, with a narrow bridge and a small 'beach head' area, and I know I had mined probably 3-4000 stone to build it, plus I probably used 1000+ coal and wood to make Evercoal to light most of the building up.
I also cant find a single branch in this game, you'd expect to find them on the ground but its nowhere.
Cant craft axe, cant repair tools, i think this game needs a revamp, kinda ridiculous

I've had similar issue with wheat, was running around unable to find it until i found one, memorized how it looks and never had this issue since
Resources are there, game just lacks visual clarity sometimes
BONUS: When you can finally chop down trees, you will usually gain a few branches every time you cut a tree down.
You can fashion branches from the workbench, you just need pieces of wood to make it. It is pretty inefficient though, like 1 branch for 1 piece of wood.
Yeah, those branches are literally camouflaged. They blend in very, very, well with the ground. Look for them during the day time or it is hard as fuck to see the damn things.
There is a tree near the starting area that usually has quite a few branches that you can harvest. The cluster of trees in the starting area has some branches on the ground as well, but that one tree usually has a good amount.
Once you have some time playing the game, you will be able to spot them much easier. But, starting out, yeah, it can be a pain in the ass trying to find some of the crap in the game.
Ok, managed to get the hang of it, found some stuff and am consistently building a castle, just takes some time to grind.

Likely you are trying to pick up the wrong stones. Do they look more white than black? The stones you can pick up are darker looking. You can use a pick axe and mine other stones both large and small for stones used to build with. Stones you can pick up are typically found on shorelines, but can rarely be found a little bit more inland as well. If you can destroy it with a pick axe it wasn't a stone. Typically, if you can destroy it with a pick axe then it should provide you with a stone when mined. Not sure if the small stones will tho. I think you need to mine slightly larger ones to receive anything.

Both the Steam version and the version here are 0.8.5.9 is there any benefit to downloading here what so ever?
Or is it just messing up our game save files causing the game to fuck up and create a bugfest when the game updates?

i think 8.6.0 has some substantial bugs so maybe it's best to wait for a hotfix anyways imo
