So does the art get better? Because that's a very simple style/detail art? I even think it comes from some sort of generator.Yes, it is a HTML game, 'poor quality' - a lot of people would disagree. Anyway, game got traction, developer decided "rework" his project and been "working" almost a year with nothing to show except weekly updates on progress and still raking over 4k per month on patreon.
Discovering a poor implementation of the "game engine" and having to fix it could require a big rewrite maybe even the entire code base. Compounding that the dev's are usually doing this as second (or even third) job its understandable that development slows. An example of this is "Something Unlimited" they have hamstrung themselves with a poor implementation of Unity with an outdated version of fungus for years now and are at the point that new releases are being done on Renpy. They used to pull in +10k a month and couldn't even get their shit fixed. They have also changed scopes and moved on from more of a sand box to a narrative driven release.
I think it's foolish when a dev says monthly or bi-monthly releases as the content is usually very small and sometime meaningless (as a porn game). There's been so many games that have lackluster releases because they are too busy chasing the susbsriber model
So In the case of "With Hermione" I'm ok with the dev stopping early to fix issues before getting to the point of no return and creating a meaningful release. I also know a private beta went out to certain members for play testing in late Jan (if I recall) and I suspect a new public release will be here in a month or two. The release is slated to have quality artwork, animated scenes, voice lines, multiple outfits, and multiple characters (that's a lot of work) all while dev is making 10s of dollars for his efforts from 30 subscribers.
If you think I'm simping its because the Dev has been very open about whats going on. While I have gottten banned by other devs for asking what they are doing and asking for some sort of project direction.
