In my home PC 1Tb hard drive worked for 8 years non stop. Then it did aforementioned thing. I know I can retrieve information from it, but it's costly and it can only be done by a professional who has "clean room". Well, I don't have 25K roubles (and that price was something like 5 years ago) I can spent on that, so I just bought a new disk. But for 8 years it had been working without any problems. And I saw no reason to change it. So why someone would be changing working hardware if it works as it should?
And you forgot, "this MF" lives in Russia. So yeah, you can buy him whatever you want but how he can get that whatever?
Just FYI, you can buy in Russian SSD no more than 1Tb and it will cost you about 11K roubles (roughly 170 dollars). And another FYI, some people in Russia have a monthly salary slightly more than 11K roubles.
