As someone with a degree in software development and has seen games far more complex and further along with drastically more content than yours change engines that are significantly harder to convert between in their entirety I can say you are ABSOLUTELY halfassing it.

I mean going from html to renpy is about the simplest conversion possible. Hell even with 70,000 words, which is not more than most full games on F95 get btw, it should take at most a month of part time effort by one person not counting rendering any new art. Just to illustrate the point given both twine and renpy use rather simple but well defined code templates for dialog it should take maybe an hour or two even with dozens of characters to convert the basic text blocks using find and replace in any halfway decent text editor. At that point ya you'll have to add the appropriate labels and jump commands for scene changes, some more precise coding for conditionals and choices, and the art loads which will take awhile but you're still talking at most a few weeks working only a couple hours a day for any halfway decent programmer even if they had to read through all 70,000~ words, something that would take a whooping 5 hours at average adult reading speed, to find the appropriate insertion points.

In other words if you wanna say you're just not interested in doing it because all the new art will take forever to design and render that's understandable; still halfassed cause you could always work on it a bit here and there with plans to incorporate it in a later release while still moving forward with new content but understandable. Trying to say it's a ridiculously difficult task just because of word count when it's actually pretty damn easy if you have any clue what you're doing and not even that time consuming compared to how long it probably took to make it in the first place that's not just halfassed it's pathetically halfassed.

This is possibly the best compliment I could've received. Thank you very much for this, it means the world to me. I'm sorry to hear about you and your mother though; I can relate, though mine is not even alive anymore.
Mine isn't either, Covid got her in 2020 so I hear you on that.

You have any tips on getting better at writing? Workshops or YouTube channels? I'm working on my own VN and I don't want to rely on cliches and/or troupes.

As for pregnancy, I shall await with bated breath. I recommend starting a SubscribeStar now as it takes some time to clear and you cannot pull money out until you make over $150 a month fyi.

Good luck on your VN, I don't even like Wrestling but a good story should pull you in regardless so count me as a fan.

The initial release, Update 1, had 70,000~ words in it. That's more words than most full games get released on here, and that was for my debut first release. Remaking all of that in Ren'Py would be such a ridiculously difficult task, not to mention take me a very, very long time.

I am sorry you feel this way, but there are no plans whatsoever to remake Update 1 in Ren'Py. As such, I've provided a very comprehensive "The Story So Far..." recap to the beginning of the Ren'Py demo that explains much of what happened in Update 1, should you not remember or did not play the initial release. I'd rather keep moving forward with the game instead of being stuck in the past, reworking things I've already done, which is unfortunately ridiculously common for AVNs.

You may disagree with my decision, but one thing that should not be in question is that I am absolutely not a "halfass."

I don't think you should go back now, but eventually, if you manage to complete the game I think you should then adapt the html version's content into the full game.
I actually don't even think it would be that bad if you just use a static, background image for each location and used character cut-outs for each conversation (like you do at the end of the demo) then the biggest time sink would be adapting the writing into Ren'Py text box chunks and you're done.

I haven't yet played this (it's on my list) but a really simple way to distinguish the 2 in an effort to minimise any complaints about the change in game engine would be to consider the Twine release as a 'Prologue'. Considering the ren'py version has essentially a recap of it, that would be an easier solution for the time being. I do somewhat agree with the notion of possibly incorporating the initial version into ren'py down the line, but only if the author finds themselves in a holding pattern or with a case of writer's block - sometimes going back can help in moving forwards.

I will not compromise the story for the sake of Patreon. If my Patreon gets shut down, I'll find some other avenue, but until (if) it does get taken down, so be it. While you can configure your relationships to the other family members (my biggest attempt at getting around Patreon's insane rules), the default and canon settings are blood related family, so full incest. Otherwise, fuck Patreon and their bullshit.

Family lineage/heritage is extremely important to the game's story. The MC is part of the 5th generation of the legendary Morgan family in the pro wrestling scene, and it will be up to... someone... to carry that on and create the 6th generation. That said, with as little spoilers as possible, pregnancy will play a significant role in the story. I think a lot of people will be very surprised with what I have in mind regarding pregnancy. I'll say nothing more (y)
Fuck yeah dude.

I'd really love if more games would forget about the renaming/establishing relationship mechanic between characters and just straight up write a full incest script instead of just changing the word "Landlady" to "Mom".

I'm vanilla AF but I want taboo incest talk, incestuous impregnation dialogues and shit like that.

It's a thousand times hotter a "Fuck the hole you came from, son" than a "Fuck your landlady mom, tenant son".

Mine's been gone for 15~ years, I miss her dearly.

Tips on writing? I can only mention what works for me, and as silly as it sounds... I always try to put myself into not only the shoes of the character talking, but also the shoes of the character listening. What sounds realistic to me given the scene and context? How would I feel if my mother told me she's proud of me and I'm her best boy? etc. Of course, it's a bit easier for me because I've spent practically half my life playing and DMing tabletop RPGs, where I was frequently roleplaying as other characters and getting into the minds of those characters, what makes them happy/angry/etc, so I do think there is a big overlap between that and the character writing I'm doing here.

I'd also recommend having your character traits readily available to reference for every scene. For example, if Tom is talking to Sally, I would have a bullet point list of the most prominent character traits for each character (Optimistic, jealous, funny, kind, whatever), so that I could cross reference what's happening in the scene with the intended character traits to make sure it lines up. There is wiggle room of course, but it helps me from overstepping the line too far into the realm of "This character would absolutely not act like that" or "All the characters are acting the same."

I don't know if any of that made sense but it works for me.

I wish you luck with your VN! Do you have anything to show off so far? Any previews or a Discord server or something?

As far as Subscribestar, I've been waiting for 5 weeks to get my page approved there. I've heard it can take a while but this is getting ridiculous.

The ironic thing is is that I could easily just copy and paste the script of Update 1 into Ren'Py, using static backgrounds and character busts, but I personally would consider that "halfassing" it. There's so much more I wanted to do in Update 1 but I was getting fucked left and right by Twine. For example, here's some cut content from Update 1:

Please keep in mind these were just prototypes and the looping/quality would've been better in the final product, but it was just such a massive pain in the ass to get it how I wanted it in Twine and so I didn't go with it.

Even with the 1 month experience I have in Ren'Py, I already know I could've pulled this off damn near exactly how I wanted it to be. This would compel me to want to add in all the other many things I wanted to do in Update 1 but didn't because of Twine's limitations, and that's what I meant when I said redoing Update 1 in Ren'Py would take me a long time, because I'd want to restore/create all the things I originally had in mind.

Another reason why I'm so against redoing Update 1 in Ren'Py is because I legitimately thought people would be very angry and upset if I went the "static background, character bust" route. I did not think this would be well received. If enough people are vocal enough about this being acceptable, I would be open to the idea of doing it this way, because I don't think that would take all that long. In fact, I would likely have my wife take care of this while I continue going forward with the story (she's helped out here and there with the project, for example, she's the one who did the whole Gallery for the Ren'Py demo. I know the Gallery is a mess currently and will be improved but just wanted something for the demo, you know?)

I know Twine/HTML games certainly have a reputation, but I'll say again: Update 1 of Wrestling Dynasty is as straight-forward as it gets. It's practically just reading a book with pictures in it. There's no sandbox, there's no stats, there's no grinding, there's not any of the very common things that HTML games typically have. If you haven't tried it yet, I implore you to give it a try. Even just the first page (as seen in the preview images) where it says "CHAPTER 1" will give you an idea of what 99% of the game is. There is one very small "free-roam" section at the beginning, which is basically just "which of these 4 rooms in your house you want to visit before you continue the story", and at times you can choose which dialogue/conversation you want to see first (like in standard RPGs), but otherwise... you just read lol. I don't know if anyone is apprehensive about playing Update 1 under the thought it would be like most other HTML games, but it certainly isn't.

Even without there being actual sex scenes in the game yet, I try to lean into the taboo/incest talk as much as I can. I try to replace "Melissa" with "mother/your mother" whenever I can without sounding redundant, even in narration. This goes the same for "Abigail" and "sister/older sister." More family members beyond the core 5 will be introduced along the way and they'll all follow suit.

And there will be much, much more of it to come.

* * *

Speaking of tabletop RPGs, I'd also like to take this time to mention that I am planning a Warhammer Fantasy RolePlay 4th Edition 1 shot on my server, and I'm currently looking for players! I have 3 committed players currently but could easily take in another 3 or so. If you've never played tabletop RPGs before, absolutely no problem! New players are welcome, and in some cases, preferred! We will teach you everything you need to know how to play. Playing is free for the player and you'll play right inside your browser. If you're familiar with virtual tabletops, we'll be using FoundryVTT, and the game will be DMed by me.

I should also mention that we intend to stream the game live (on the not-created-yet UniSeven Studios Twitch) and later upload it to the (also-not-created-yet) UniSeven Studios Youtube. No video is required (none of us will be using video/webcam in fact), just a working mic. And even if you don't want to use your mic, you can just type to us (though you will have to at least be able to hear us speaking in .)

If the 1 shot goes well, then we'll continue with more 1 shots not only in Warhammer Fantasy but other systems, such as Warhammer 40k, Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder 2e, etc. If I can get a solid group of dedicated players, then we'll look into doing massive grand campaigns rather than just 1 shots.

Believe me, your tips are plenty for me to work with I appreciate your response!

I have little to show outside of character renders, eight renders of the Intro, and around 5000 words of an Overview/script/worldbuilding.

It's my first time doing anything like this so I want to make sure I already have a beginning, middle and end for my story vs dragging things out for 3-5 years. Rendering in Daz for me is the easy part, but writing? Haven't done so since Creative Writing in high school haha.

I'll definitely ping you when I release it, as I want something out before the winter begins.

As for the SubStar problem, you have some options.

The tricky part about putting wrestling in a fictional story is whether to present it as scripted and staged entertainment or as a legitimate combat sport. The WWE 2K games chose the latter.

Way more often than not, I'll be protecting kayfabe, brother. The characters involved in wrestling (the MC/Morgan family/Dani/etc) all know how the business works (obviously), except I don't think I'll ever use anything related to "pre-determined" stuff, under the guise that just isn't how wrestling works in this UniSeven universe.

Specifically, all wrestling characters (especially the MC) will not know the "finish" or much about the match at all until it happens live in the ring, as if it was an actual contest. I will try my best to keep the Player as "un-spoiled" as possible, if that makes sense lol.

The calendar in this world consists of four "months" of 30 days each, corresponding to the seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Days are counted sequentially within each season, such as Winter 1st, Winter 2nd, Winter 3rd, etc.

A full cycle of 120 days makes up one complete year. Each season lasts for an equal 30 day period before transitioning to the next. This simplified calendar system avoids the complexities of varying month lengths and helps maintain a consistent temporal structure throughout the world.

The compressed 120 day year enables a much quicker passage of time compared to a standard calendar. This allows characters to age, grow, and evolve at an accelerated pace, facilitating storytelling that spans years or decades within a reasonably short span of time.
  • Update 1 happened on Spring 30th and Summer 1st. Update 2 opens on Summer 2nd (as seen in the Ren'Py Demo) and will continue all the way to Summer 21st, which is also scheduled to be the VWA's second event, where you and Abigail will make your debuts as official VWA wrestlers.
  • Update 2 will cover the entire VWA event and end when you go to sleep later that night.
  • Update 3 will begin on Summer 22nd.
  • Due to the size of Update 2 and my continued efforts to learn Ren'Py, I do not have a release date in mind. The only thing I can say at this time is that I hope and intend to release it sometime before 2024 ends.

Hello everyone! I'm back with an early character preview of a new character you'll meet in Update 2: Gwendolyn Sanders!

If you remember in Update 1 (or in the recap), when you first meet Beverly in her office at the Alderton Valley Bank, she was speaking to her granddaughter on the phone. In Update 2, you'll meet Beverly's 18 year old granddaughter: Gwen, who just so happens to work for the VWA as Dani's backstage interviewer! Gwen also works behind the scenes at VWA, being the Equipment Manager.

Please note that the final character design for Gwen may change slightly from now until release, but this is the core concept. Let me know what you think of Gwen!

Joining the Patreon at any tier will grant you access to the "Bonus Render Club", where you'll get access to exclusive bonus renders! Each month, I'll randomly create renders that will have a free, public clothed version, and the Patreon will get access to topless (minimum) versions of those renders!

Full disclaimer: I don't intend to show off the girls of Wrestling Dynasty that much further than they've been revealed in the Main Story, so the most I would bend on this would be topless and certain nude variants. Though, as soon as it happens in the Main Story, these bonus renders will have similar alternatives as well!

The first bonus render is our favorite muscle sister: Abigail! Topless version available on in stunning 4k quality!

Can MC go 80s heel Ric Flair?
The vision I have for the story only works if the MC is a babyface, I am sorry. While he may not be a limousine riding, jet flying son of a gun, the MC will certainly have just as many girls as the Nature Boy did, if not more :ROFLMAO:

There Is going to be a Vince stand in?
In this universe, the GWE (Global Wrestling Empire) is basically the modern day WWE. As such, there will absolutely be an owner/CEO of GWE introduced in the future (and most of her family), as both on-and-off screen (of GWE) characters. I actually have rather big plans for the CEO (and her family), but it will be quite a while before the Main Story reaches that point o_O
