Oh god dude, I can see it now being the ending á la Acting Lessons...10 or 12 (I think that covers the college girls) kids and a career ending injury before he's even drafted sounds like a nightmare to me

For me it's when there's a final basketball game, all the girls are cheerleading for you with vibrators up their ass running at max, you win the game, you get to do half of them in the changing room, the other half in your house the same night.happy ending for me will be to knock up as many of those young college girls as possible

Developers who turned the genre into an endless grindfest spoiled the perception of short stories - they add sound to them and a lot of things, just to not add the main content.
The absence of a predetermined sound gives more freedom. Better not to have sound than to have the wrong one. When the author has the opportunity and confidence to make high-quality soundtrack - he will probably do it.

I mean... it all depends on personal preference. I really dislike the dichotomous separation between VNs and video games and have stopped considering it, calling everything a game for simplicity's sake, because there's a fluid border between the two.
Personally, I do like some sound design in VNs and have praised it even in games I have otherwise criticized, like 'The DeLuca Family'.
But I also don't necessarily need it, and prefer no sound design at all, to a bad or incomplete one.
But yeah. Sandbox VNs are a clear example of muddying the waters between VNs and video games and I like both fine, as long as they're done well.
I like WVM because it's a good visual novel. Would I prefer it with some sound design? Eeeehhh, maybe, as with everything, it would depend on how well it was done. Sure, devs being pressured to do sound design when they have no experience with it and therefore then mess it up, that's not a good thing. But I won't criticize a dev because he wants to include it because it often does make the experience more immersive in my opinion.
As with everything, it's not a black and white issue.
