There has to be some sort of hook and conflict beyond just playing basketball and getting girls. I really liked having Ryker as an antagonist and the bowling alley fight that happened from a plot perspective. I wasn't aware most people didn't like it or the larger conflict that is being introduced.
And I took the dialogue between Belle and the MC to mean the plot between the Hearts of Hope charity and whoever this Dalia person is, will become larger. I think it goes beyond just drug pushing. And remember Damien said Ryker talked about the MC's father all the time. So there are still some unanswered questions.
And while Belle and Racheal promised the MC he doesn't have to get involved in it, I have a suspicion he will because the bad guys will target his family especially if you consider Belle and Racheal as part of that family, who will obviously be targeted for retaliation.
To be honest, I became vastly more interested in the game's plot when the Hearts of Hope group and this other bad group that controls cops were introduced. This game is better by having a good overarching conflict like that to make its plot more interesting. So I'm surprised to see someone say the opposite
You care about their backstory by reading the words at the bottom of the screen. I know the boobies draw your eye, but try reading once in a while. Most of the characters actually have been pretty well defined so far, unless they are just background characters. This is one of those games where you come for the sex but stay for the story and Braindrop is doing a really good story so far. As for character names, besides some obscure ones, I think I can probably name 90% of the characters and this is a story that is rivaling War and Peace for the number of characters.

It was a very vocal issue i had with the game especially prior to his self imposed break. It wasnt even that as other comment said that (basically) people come for the story and cum for the sexy scenes as a sticky side bonus - it was all about fan insert tall dude who was a virgin one day and within a week had fucked over a dozen different girls, was a literal male prostitute to pregnant willing older hotties and was openly parading a harem of women willing to share orchestrated by his girlfriend who according to the narrative prior to that week was not putting out at all... it was all WTF?
He moved house about 4 times in a week too. I have openly admitted several times after long breaks in the game waiting for full day releases needing to come here to ask "who was that girl again? oh its that one from ages back who you ran into briefly walking her dog" which of course wasnt an issue for super fans who replay and write their own fan fiction on the cast but yeah it is hard to not be REALLY brought out of reality with it. As such i dont think the real nitty gritty is hes gotta develop the girls more (too many characters to now and many get added each full day playthrough i check out) but more the story had to be better paced and be more cohesive so its less porn movie script and more interactive game script. We cant say BD doesnt pander to instant gratification as when i last played there was a handy dandy chubby hottie who i had never met before but conveniently the nurse knew and was offered on a plate for serious fucking on screen before we even bothered with such trifling matters as say... i dunno a name never mind a deep developed characterisation to care about seeing again haha
Its this games style, its this devs style and i like it. Hes just needed to streamline it a better, control the pace somewhat and i think hes really managed to re-focus since his break even if i look at updates and only see renders in updates but as i generally am happy to wait for full days to be released before i jump back in i get best of both worlds but i do understand people checking every update hoping for fuck some random chick be that harem regular, complete stranger or even a saggy nurse as thats the president the game has set based on previous releases.

@LukePlaysLewdGames this may sound odd but i actually find the updates without sex scenes better because you get to see more of the interesting story and the carakters get more background. i love the story more than the x scenes good job dev. perhaps you should make a book out of it idk
I prefer less frequent updates with more content, especially sex scenes. I hate when an erotic game puts out updates without sex. I'm left wondering why I even got my dick out if they don't include some naughty time. I don't mind a good story to accompany my porn but it's not why I'm here. It's appreciated but if I want a deep meaningful story I'll go grab a novel.

If that is your motivation, then it might be best. BD, in order to make a good product that will bring in money, has to ensure that each character is developed to ensure continuous interest. And at the same time, ensure story development so that it also stays relevant. That is the whole premise behind a visual novel...at least the good ones anyhow.

i have tried the heram highlander game update .2.
it is a bad, bad, overly comidic game that is what makes it so FREAKIN FUNNY, please try it out and laugh at how bad the jokes are.
it has a "decent" story that many will like, but it's so, so UGHHHHH.
and yes you should read the christmas short staory after going through the curent update, it's stupid and funny and cute all in one.

That is literally the only thing that this game appeals to, which is a large cast of women wanting to have sex with the MC because he's perfection personified. The GF in this game early on even lets you fuck other women so you make them happy, and doesn't display a shred of jealousy, which from a story telling perspective is a terrible decision because it automatically removes what could have been a big element to the plot.
I'm not knocking the game, it's fun and I get why people like it, but lets not pretend the plot is Shakespearean. If the Dev wants to focus on story telling in the game, all power to him, but I think he'll need to decide soon whether he wants this game to be a Greek God Simulator or if he wants to tell an actual story here which means he'll have to reduce the number of sex scenes, because trying to do both will not appease anyone.

so your just gonna focus on the sex part and forget about all of the other story, like the basketball, Ryker, the MCs mom and sister, the Hearts and now the potential new villain Dalia

Yet you could argue his boom in success with this project was from NOT being like the thousands of other similar games as he had a pacing that defied logic but it was funny, the girls were hot and the scenes were saucy. It wasnt remotely realistic but it was very fan servicey where MC was fucking everything in sight practically every update and thats how most got here... lets be honest, how many stuck around this long because they adored the characters that deeply when majority of them were not that deep? I mean sure we can blue ball extended periods like Mr Dots (yeesh) to great success but this project didnt blow up on the basis of it being presented as such, it was more in the Ecchi Sensei camp of "heres dozens of girls, leave behind your perception of reality a bit and join me in my quest to animate you fucking every last single one of them".
The change of pace im not sure will all of a sudden change the success of the project as it already was a success and it doesnt detract from this visual novel being a good one as it was already a good one but with different strengths. A year from now i still likely wont care about girls in the game i currently dont like at this moment in time - one or two perhaps but thats about it and im sure its the case for everyone else. The game being THIS bloated actually defies spending long development times in characterisations and deep backstories for even half of the girls weve met in the game already as there are simply far too many so if you DO try that your gonna devote time to build up characters many were meh over sure but give less and less focus on girls who people already loved in masses and wanted to see more vs trying to make them care equally about a Penny, Tia or who ever else. I see team harem as main cast and everyone else extra juicy sexy scene content side characters and that works and has worked so well so far with more of said Harem to develop deeper anyway but not at expense of any sex scenes for months at a time. IMO
