Some people needs to give more value to their money. Some works a lot, long hours to have some money to invest/support games and some wannabe developers try to take advantage of those people, scamming them with such games. Most of these games you will never see the end.

So be wise on who you gonna support. Always look for someone who has at least 1 project finished. There are a few out there.
If you see developers who stop in the middle and decide to rework, stop your support untill the moment they release something new. Give some value to the money you earn.
you do realize that the patreons voted for longer updates and waiting for the dev to finish the update right?
when they were given the choice.
so.. your comment is .. stupid at it's best.
at least the part about the patreons...
also calling this dev a scammer is so .. siilly to put it in the nicest way...
but I guess people such as yourself and others who have posted here have nothing better to do.
carry on.

So you want no never dev's because what dev is going to finish a project and start a new one if he gets no support? A few new hobbists will sure, but most new dev's won't even start then if that was the case.

Also you say that and have a bunch of untested ones in your signature?

Tthat's the consequence of talking about your private life and your weaknesses on the Internet as openly as BD does.
There are always people who jump on it one way or another.
And it's not limited to this thread nor the forum, even on his Patreon people are starting to get impatient and most importantly incredulous.

BD begins to lose the trust of his followers through his actions that he have built up over the years.
He's afraid that what he's doing isn't good enough, so he doesn't do anything.
He even knows that's worse, but can't bring himself to just press the button.

He's sitting in a hamster wheel and can't find the exit.
Noone is attacking him for his private life he discusses it because he is attempting to use it as shield to take peoples money while doing nothing. If he finds making a porn game too onerous then the right thing to do is shut the project down and focus on his mental health.

Not string people along stealing their money with the occasional pause here or there when criticism gets too high. Just shut it all down. There is a reason why these games that are essentially abandoned but are not really continue on this way for a couple of years on this site because Devs have realized it takes a long time for followers to wise up and leave.

It's been more than a year and he's released nothing of note. He still has close to 5500 patrons. From the outside looking in we've all seen this happen a hundred times on patreon with hundreds of Devs Braindead isn't the first one to claim a mental illness, some sort of illness, a life changing event, a death in the family, lost eyesight, a lost finger, a lost harddrive. What you never hear is the truth is that many of these Devs burnout lose their motivation to continue but don't want to lose the income so they string along their patrons and do as little as possible until eventually enougn patrons leave where they don't even feel the need to continue the charade and just formally abandon the project.

Hyenas and vultures came in numbers and stroke hard here, well it's what internet and some people behind a screen are and that can't be changed...

Regardless, I'm disappointed with how things are going : I understand the censoring, what he wanted to do with DITLO Harper but it's not the best move to make regarding the situation. If it makes him feel better to have done this, good, but how he'll manage the update...not a big fan of that move : gives to those against him a point to attack (as if they needed one in the first place) and could weaken "defenders" goodwill.

I'm personally having mixed feelings about all that : despising how people can jump on someone's throat from nowhere and understanding the point from more "civilized" ones when still wanna give a chance to him, but it's getting real thin now...not much hope left but I'd like to be proven wrong...

With that logic we will have 99% of the new devs giving up very soon.
Well that's the problem. Most of these developer are making demos or first chapters and they make this big speech about how big the game is going to be. They set up a patreon page and most goals that you read, is if I get a 1000 patreons I would be able to upgrade my rig and make a better game and provide better updates.

They believe patreon is the quick get rich scheme of making money. Yet if a developer was really passionate about their project, they would work on it regardless.

If I were to make an adult VN, I would hold off on the whole patreon thing until I had something substantial. Hell I might not even do the patreon thing. I would make the money that I need to upgrade my pc or whatever I needed on my own.

Sure it might be great for some creators, but I have seen enough developers abuse the system. If a developer doesn't make that 1000 patreon by a certain timeframe, they close up shop and it becomes lost. They give up, so it questions whether they were passionate about making a game or making a buck. Don't get me wrong I think you should be rewarded for your efforts. But most successful people build the bridge before people drive over it.

Here Braindrop started off strong and was pushing updates every week. He was boasting how he was the only developer doing it and because he loved it. Once he got a good amount of patreons paying his salary. That's when the excuses started creeping in.

How much of that is true is anyone's guess? But I find it too convenient that he said in April that he was almost done, he had 2000K renders and he delivers his grandpa died(sure this is sad if it were true) I have a hard time believing it. It's not the first time he provided an excuse around a delay of an update.

Maybe there are a few new devs who dream of making big bucks.
Well, than they are stupid. Show me 5 devs from 2020/21 who are successful (in means of they can live from their work).

Building up a fanbase takes time. With or without Patreon.
But for sure some support makes it easier, if it's paying for assets, electricity or a new GPU.
Most people have no idea how much time and money some devs put into their games.

Many said that he will not be able to keep the weekly/biweekly release.
He did it for a few months, that's one reason he was successful.
Changing the release cycle didn't harm him. So far, so good.

But months only talking about his life - SHOULD have people made thinking about what's going on.
I don't know what's true and what not. At this point it doesn't matter anymore (for me).

But the point is: He did deliver until a year ago or so. People supported him and that was for sure one reason he worked on the game.
That the people still support him ... well, that's a complete different story (which I can't explain and do not understand).

Yeah we all know how that will go, we saw and still see it with the week 1 redo and all the crying about having to restart the game (that won't even be necessary) and that it takes of time from the actual update.. And it isn't perceived well in other games too, like SLF or Summertime Saga (well it would be better for that one if it didnt take that long).
yes i'm sure there will be those but that is going to be waaaaay less people thats going to be upset about that.

whats worse replaying something that has got an update or never playing it again because its essentially dead

The team got bigger and the releases have never gotten any faster which kinda defeats the purpose of expanding the team no? Not to mention they've been working on the "tech update" for over a year now. The last actual release with content worthy of the name was v0.20.9 which was.... what? March? Who you trying to kid with this "nice chunk of content every 5-6 months" nonsense?
March was only a couple of months ago, jeez.

Imagine my surprise when I saw a new WVM update and “Harper” in the same sentence. My caveman mind was like finally we get to fuck her!!

But no, looking through the comments, you can’t even do that. You can’t even see her titties.

I’m all for fleshing out characters n stuff, but I wanna at least bust a good nut every update and call it a day. It’s gonna be tough pleasing everyone with all of the girls in this game now, but Braindrop, I think we just need to get back to the basics.

At the end of the day, it’s anxiety or the feeling that not everyone can be pleased. And it’s true that you can’t please everyone. That’s a fact. You’re letting it destroy you.

I understand burnout, and personal shit. But I think the pleasing of the crowds is the biggest concern or worry of yours at this point. Just let that go.

Everyone here just wants to splooge to some hot women with a semi-decent story to boot. That’s the simplified core. If your new update waiting in the wings has that, then there’s nothing to worry about.
