They believe patreon is the quick get rich scheme of making money. Yet if a developer was really passionate about their project, they would work on it regardless.
If I were to make an adult VN, I would hold off on the whole patreon thing until I had something substantial. Hell I might not even do the patreon thing. I would make the money that I need to upgrade my pc or whatever I needed on my own.
Maybe there are a few new devs who dream of making big bucks.
Well, than they are stupid. Show me 5 devs from 2020/21 who are successful (in means of they can live from their work).
Building up a fanbase takes time. With or without Patreon.
But for sure some support makes it easier, if it's paying for assets, electricity or a new GPU.
Most people have no idea how much time and money some devs put into their games.
Here Braindrop started off strong and was pushing updates every week. He was boasting how he was the only developer doing it and because he loved it. Once he got a good amount of patreons paying his salary. That's when the excuses started creeping in.
How much of that is true is anyone's guess? But I find it too convenient that he said in April that he was almost done, he had 2000K renders and he delivers his grandpa died(sure this is sad if it were true) I have a hard time believing it. It's not the first time he provided an excuse around a delay of an update.
Many said that he will not be able to keep the weekly/biweekly release.
He did it for a few months, that's one reason he was successful.
Changing the release cycle didn't harm him. So far, so good.
But months only talking about his life - SHOULD have people made thinking about what's going on.
I don't know what's true and what not. At this point it doesn't matter anymore (for me).
But the point is: He did deliver until a year ago or so. People supported him and that was for sure one reason he worked on the game.
That the people still support him ... well, that's a complete different story (which I can't explain and do not understand).
