Strange. I redownloaded the game recently and the mod loader was there. Anyhow, check the "loverslab" site. The "mod loader utility" should be one of the first results in X-change life section of mods.

Maybe a simple answer I'm unaware of, but one of the mods I had downloaded for my new XCL install (XCL Work WIP - Sale End Unpredictability v0.1.7) says its incompatable due to needing v.22 while im on ver 21.7. Does this mean the mod author built the mod on his private version from (wherever) and I'll need to wait?

I changed the file folder extension and it worked.
v.22 is the current playtest version as well as the more current git builds. Many new macros have been added as well as some structural internal changes. So, while you might be able to run the mod with the older version, odds are good that something will not work.
There is likely to be an update this year sometime.
So I was recently recommended the game but told to just google it to find the latest version. So when I did I found a Reddit post and, like a total idiot, didn't check the age of the post. It linked me to a download of the game that I only just realized is years out of date (0.19) and I was wondering if there is any way to update a version that old and retain my saves. I went zero to hero and started as a loser with minimum stats and have spent probably 40 hours on this save working my ass off to bulk up my stats while also power boosting my relationships *sigh*.
I don't necessarily mind having to start over, but only if the amount of new/updated content is sizable. If I can't save my saves, is it worth it to just jump over to the newest version?

For a more recent release, you need to either be a part of the author's subscribestar subscription or refer to the discord to get the most recent git build. Some work is required to create a git build.

Honestly, just make a note of what your character stats are and use the cheat menu on a new file to put your stats to the same levels. Although that won't bring over lovers and clothes and stuff
And, if you feel it's unsporting of the game to mark your game as cheated at that point, there are both mods and edits you can do to fix that (The Super Cheater mod on Lover's Lab just disables the "Cheated" flag one way or another, and I think there are other manipulations you can do to $cheated to get the job done too)

any idea how to get to the scene where the stepdad intervenes when you call someone over? he has 15 + dom and attraction with the cheats but i cant seem to figure it out
Very irritating that mods are getting updated to support 0.22 and having their 0.21 supporting versions deleted, so they just don't work at all now unless you kept an old version around. Any idea when 0.22 will be accessible? I can't imagine it will be long if mod devs are doing this.
Well respect and friendship will lower the chance of him intervening but also you need to fail the mini games to trigger the chance for that event to happen.

add the .jar extension to the folder where the mod files are located, then open it together and select Java. you will see the mod loader
