The reason is how a filesystem works. Files dont get physically moved every single time but often enough just change entry in the master file table (especially if you use a regular hard disc), which is why optimizing them once in a while is more or less mandatory. That does not apply to SSD though.Well thankfully moving the folders back apparently didn't need any effort at all for some reason, so it only took a second and now I have all of my old saves back.
Note to self though, export any meaningful save files BEFORE moving crap around.
