Is that when you try to load a save or start the mod loader? there has been some saving issues lately and the only the solution that worked for me is deleting everything, fresh install and start over from scratch.
in your case some mods may corrupt save or simply incompatible

i'm like 99% sure i do. even the java test uninstaller says i have 1 up to date version of java installed
Well if you do and can do run other .jar files then make sure that your mod loader are not in read only directory...
also make sure that xcl are not opened in browser
the mod loader is in the same dir as the non-modded xcl file
mod loader not compatible with android systems

Two questions:
1. Your Operating System
2. First time installing and running the program, or you have other previous installations?
3. Sound silly but, "C:\XCL 0.21.5 Full Download\mod-loader-2.0.7.jar" in messages seem to refer to the file you find inside the 7z game installer pack. Question is: Have you uncompressed and installed the game first, before trying to run the .jar file? Sorry if that sound too obvious but have to consider all possibilities.

As for java, if you are using Windows, you open "Control Pannel" then "Programs" and you see an icon to access java there, by going further you go into "Programs and Features" and you will find all java you have installed in your PC.

idk what a read only directory is
There are places in hdd/ssd where you can only read information without administrator rights/consent
and jeah if you did run it in compressed form then it does not works... it is kinda dumb so i did not expect...:FacePalm:

Tested the mod loader if he/she did not uncompressed the file the only error it gives that it does not find the html file... what is logical... cause if you run something from compressed file then all other components are not found... the mod loader is stand alone jar file...

I'm kinda confused here because after the 'Emporium' post a few pages back, I for the first time downloaded a ton of mods (the varies pills, Blacked, Emporium, and the varies Wharf mods) and got them to work quite easily since the Mod Instiller tells you what's missing. And this is with 0.21.6 version of the game still being play-tested.
