The animation queue is hanging in there and lets me work on static renders without stress. PCs are working on two different lewd scenes and the cutscene animations I've posed. I estimated that both cutscene animations will be done within 36 days from now, using a PC each to render. And while that sounds like a long time, the speed is actually very good.

Dessolos, speaking about the latest TNT update, mentioned that he plays more for the characters than the plot. That's why he really liked it, although many criticize it for the lack of the progression of the main plot. Well, I see why they might be disappointed, since almost the entire update is dedicated to things that are not related to the main story, most of the update is about the relationships building between the MC and the girls. It's like he took a vacation and enjoys quiet days in the company of the ladies he likes.

I think this is true for me too, only I didn't bother to verbalize my preferences. When I say I like story-driven games, I don't mean that there should be a lot of text telling some fabulous tale about glorious deeds. Not at all, what attracts me most are the characters, their behavior, emotions, dramas and conflicts between them, how they behave in a given situation. I like to observe their casual lives, to learn about their past. The plot rather creates the conditions and sets the logic in which the characters have to act.

For example, I'm not a big fan of the detective stories. Frankly, I don't give a damn who the killer is, how the investigation is processed, or how the evidences are analyzed. I'm simply don't care about all that. But when it serves as a backdrop, and the author brings to the fore the characters, their personalities, their daily lives, the dramas and romances that develop against the backdrop of the detective plot, that's what I love.

The same goes for urban fantasy. A simple guy, spending his life at an ordinary job as an office clerk, suddenly found himself in the center of a conflict between humans and fantasy races, met various supernatural characters (and even banged some of them :BootyTime: ) and learned that his family had been hiding the truth from him all his life about who they and the MC really are.

Well, I'm not really going to play this just to intervene in a war with the elves and stop it, or vice versa, take one side and defeat the other. They fought for hundreds of years without me, and to hell with them. What's much more interesting in this plot is the MC's acquaintance with the elves, the opportunity to live with them for a while, learn their character, personal stories, become friends with them and possibly even start a romantic relationship.

The seemingly insignificant details of the MC's life in Ailil's house, the MCs daily training with Finnabair, all their jokes and teasing, glances, half-smiles, touches, casual conversations or spending time with Medb in her natural element; how their initial mistrust and hostility gradually develop into respect, friendship and even something more - this is what brings the characters to life and makes immersion in the game interesting. Imagine if instead we were just shown a few slides of the MC training and the MC would end up getting +10 to attack and we would be taken back to the main story about the Templars' conflict with the elves. Meh.
