I think that's just Scarlett Ann's art style, he/she is SEA iirc. When I played ZR1 it was with the revised art and I don't see any difference. Why are all the characters in the sequel asian? Literally all asian eyes, much different from first game.

Hard agree. The patreon game dev model is absolute cancer. It literally encourages as slow a progress as possible. It's got to the point where there's only three types of dev's even making these games anymore:That's the problem with the whole Patreon model ya know. I get that this group is generally working on multiple projects, but they get around 5K/month for this game alone, whether they deliver or not.
At this point they've been at it for like 5 years for a basic RPGM game, which is honestly stretching the boundaries.
They ain't the only ones who just make stuff like this a never ending project though. Since, as long as they're making a monthly stipend, why would you want that to end?
Honestly, I'd much prefer these project to finish in a timely manner & follow themselves up with a sequel. Time wise, this could've been Zombie's Retreat 3 already for example.
But I suppose that would mean people might withdraw their support once they start a new game (or even have to re-up if a new Patreon project is started), so you end up in this infinite loop of minor releases.
Well, at least this group/studio has already finished a game before. Unlike some, who will likely still not finish anything, even after decades of 'progress'.
Honestly, the biggest issue with this infinite updates of the same thing is that by the time it ever does get 'completed', it feels so ancient I don't even wanna bother with it anymore (I don't care much for incomplete games).
Especially with 3D engines that's a major issue since the age really shows immediately. 3D engine for the CG of course, not the RPGM gameplay (that's still 2D sprites, even afer all those many years). After all, with those, you ain't got an 'art style' to hide the age behind.
Gameplay too of course. But to a lesser extent, since many modern RPGM games don't offer much more than an older RPGM game, especially if they mostly just stick to the minimum/basics/generics.
The second issue is that after they've put a decade worth of busy work into a game, it tends to get unteneble to even start it.
It also tends to get so bloated that it really overstays its welcome and I just can't be arsed to even finish the game. Ain't the first time I've not finished a game that overstayed its welcome.
Of course, that's assuming that decade was actually productive to begin with.
Anyway, that rant is kind of not just for this game though.![]()
The worst part of that is that ci-en is more or less just Japanese ero Patreon if you think of it.Hard agree. The patreon game dev model is absolute cancer. It literally encourages as slow a progress as possible. It's got to the point where there's only three types of dev's even making these games anymore:
- The dev's that start a project, then get overwhelmed or bored and abandon it.
- The dev's that start a project, make some good progress, start a patreon to earn money, then get greedy and/or lazy and spend about two days a month (that's a generous estimate) actually working on the game, so they can milk the suckers paying them for literal years, after which they usually either abandon the project outright or remake it in a different engine from scratch so they can rip people off for another half a decade while having little to no progress.
- Good old jap dev's. The games and art are a matter of personal taste, but at the very least they release completed games, not unfinished messes.
anyone got a save right before this update?
Just so you know all responses are supposed to be in English. I recommend using google translate to avoid having your posts removed.[TRÍCH DẪN="Tensa Zangetsu1000, bài viết: 17843953, thành viên: 382759"]
