Hello,

I wanted to provide an update regarding a recent development concerning the game's title. You might have noticed that the name has been changed from "Shadows of Deception" to "Echoes of Deception."

Recently, there was a discrepancy regarding the game's title, requesting for a name alteration. To avoid any potential disruptions, I've decided to go ahead with this change.

Rest assured; this adjustment will not affect the game's progress.

Your continuous support means a lot, and I genuinely appreciate your understanding.

Thank you for being part of this community and for your ongoing enthusiasm for the project.

Thank you!

Hello everyone!

I've been quite silent for the past few days and wanted to give you an update on what happened. You may have noticed that the game's name has changed from 'Shadows of Deception' to 'Echoes of Deception.'

A couple of weeks ago, I woke up to a DMCA notice from Patreon. Initially, I thought someone who disliked the game had issued it. After some investigation, I found out the individual responsible. He made a post here couple of days before he sent the notice:

https://f95zone.to/threads/shadows-of-the-nights-v0-02-drdougdoesdos.36845/post-12576110

This person claimed that I was infringing on his work because he used the word 'Shadow' in his game before me. Both games revolve around the life of a female detective. However, this claim isn't a solid basis for a copyright claim. If the matter were to go to court, the outcome would likely not favor him. I attempted to resolve the issue amicably, but he ignored my attempts. Subsequently, I consulted a lawyer and informed him that I would take legal action. Despite my notice, his response was not favorable. So, we sent him a counter notice.

Patreon removed the DMCA notice from my account and informed him that he would need to go to federal court and present his case from there.

Later, he reached out to me through Patreon support, to resolve the matter amicably and requesting that I change the title. My lawyer wants to take the case to court as he believes the odds are in our favor.

Pursuing legal action against someone in a different country would involve high costs and could take months or years. To avoid that, I've decided to change the title and be done with it. If he persists, I won't hesitate though.

To my understanding, in cases like these, Patreon only acts as a messenger and does not take sides, even if they are aware of who is right or wrong. We have to follow the legal route and keep them in the loop. I wish there were simpler ways to handle baseless claims like this.

This change in title won't affect the development of the game. The next update will be slightly delayed because I've spent nearly two weeks dealing with this issue. I apologize for the delay and thank everyone for the support.

That guy is crazy!!! What the hell! It seems surrealistic to me. I just checked his thread, I haven't played his game, but according to the description and the previews, that game is very different, he doesn't even seem to put too much effort in his game. What I didn't understand is if Patreon gives you the right here, why are you still changing the tittle? The word shadow gave the sense of mystery that this game has. 'Echoes' doesn't give that. Maybe a storm of ideas and ask your patrons for the better title in a poll would be proper.

My call would be using the word silhouette instead of shadow. Silhouette is a beautiful word that evoques sophistication, mystery and erotism, it's oftenly associated with the female body. Something like 'Deception's Silhouettes', 'Silhouettes of Deception' or 'Silhouettes of Deceit' could work. You could even play with that concept in the banners and promo images.

For example, Sin City plays with the silhouette's concept a lot:

You actually already do it inside the game:

Besides, the word shadow is overused in thriller titles. Silhouette would be more original and distinctive, also gives the erotic tone that shadows don't.

There's an instrumental piece of one of my favorite bands called Silhouette

That's my suggestion. What do you think?

The guy must be crazy indeed. The members of a court might have a good laugh after the audience, but it's not worth the hassle.

I think "echo" is good, an echo is mysterious in itself, you don't know if it's actually an echo or a sound produced elsewhere. But "Deceitful Echoes" would be a better choice, since "of" is still common to both titles :ROFLMAO:

Sorry to here this Mad_Koala. This deceptive individual should have documented his work properly, or in other words, gotten his shit together before fraudulently barging into another person’s work. It might be disheartening when your art underperforms in bed, which I categorize as disqualified. But, man, what kind of piece of crap would immediately resort to sending a goddamn DMCA, forcing the righteous man to waste his time proving he is right? I mean, even we can read the descriptions he has posted on this platform and Patreon for his 'unique' and 'obviously registered' piece of work and realize right away that they are not similar.

The other "dev" is an ass. Looking at his thread, it started in 2019 and it's only on the 2nd version, 4 years later. Dude was desperately looking for a quick buck and he though he might get that by trying to make this into a big thing. Probably didn't think you'd actually change the name. Sucks though.

I encountered a bug on Android when going through Johnson's daughters room. After I check the drawer I can't continue, it gets to the scene where I'm supposed to pick the pillow, but the black bar at the bottom of the screen won't go away?

Having read comments on an infringing thread I had the biggest laugh in a long long time reading about "Court Action" and other fantasy talk about "Counter Action". I also like how folks class me as "nuts" and say I've only put 2 updates out... Wrong. My Game is far more advanced than it states on here and as it's been around far longer than the infringing Game and I have spent far more time making my Product than anyone cares to acknowledge. This led to Patreon correctly ordering the name change. No amount of nonsense troll talk on F95zone can change the fact that my Game was here first by a country mile and is still in production. Any more attempts to soil my Game or Reputation will be dealt with and any further attempts to copy ideas will also be dealt with. Stop lying to your followers, stop threatening me and just get on with making your own Game properly without copying others.

Meanwhile I am going to go set up a TV Studio called "DrDougDoesDOSNEY" and release a new Sci Fi Show called Star Wags where a group of Rebels who are married to famous Men take on an Empire that have an enormous Space Ship called "The Dinner Star" which eats other planets ran by a chap called Darth Ramsey. I'm sure there aren't any other Products remotely like this and I'll have no issues posting free Pirate Copies here too.
Someone is yapping LMAO

Played through this game and really like where it's going definitely lots of potential to have one of the best adult games here. It's a real proper story, not cheesey slut cringe. Female MC is not a ditsy moron. The MC is even wearing a proper cop uniform, This is what Manilla Shaw should have been. Most of this early game seems focused on relationship building choices but not world building choices. There is every choice in the world for Flirting, loving, encouraging, insulting, disrespecting, teasing both by showing skin and direct dialog. Which is good.

Choices for effecting world things like putting a dent in the crime Operation or having a dent put in your investigation by making bad choices are basically non-existent at this point. Your investigation playes out almost the same way no matter what choices you make, maby you get a violence scene, or a negotiation scene. But it all amounts to the same thing so far. I think this is better choice for the early game to keep it simple, and not have a bunch of major world choices. These type of choices should be saves for later in the game.

Tying to make meaningful relationships choices and make meaningful world choices at the same time would get convoluted and stupid really fast. AAA main stream games screw this up all the time, just look at how the Mass Effect trilogy ended up. Green, blue, red anyone? Maby if they Finnished the whole personal relationship love boat stories in ME2 they could have spent alot more time influencing governments in ME3 so all the races in the ME universe could have gotten an ending like the Krogan, Quarians, and Geth.

And that's not counting AAA studios like Bethesda and Obsidian. Only New vegas really got world tree branching stories perfect.

So since AAA studios screw up multiple choice and tree branching, I don't think going hard on indy devs is fair when a game has a near similar outcome for the choices made.

I'm going to watch this game with alot of interest now that I see how good it is, and the quality of storytelling. But I am concerned with the tags, or lack of them. And a lack of tags even in the planned section of the game post. It has Graphic violence but not Rape or blackmail. It has Incest, cheating and interacial as large selling points. But not cuck or NTR. It makes me concerned that the story will go nowhere, that all its going to be is a pick your affair for some sex scenes and few serious consequences will happen. A prime example of this would be "Lust & Passion - A Wife and Mother" which will take the next 50 years for maby something to happen.

I think the problem alot of Adult games make is a fetish for the sake of a fetish. I'm not really into Interacial, I like it if the characters are well done. But not interracial for the sake of interracial, it's good characters for the sake of good characters.

Incest actively turns me off and I always appreciate it being optional.

Same thing with consequences fetishs like rape and Blackmail. Having them just for the sake of having them makes the story stupid and takes away from the experience, as every update there is another convoluted reason to shoe horn them into the story. On the other hand not having them at all makes it so nothing really bad ever happens to the MC, and she always gets saved by her ex partner from being taught a lesson by the bad guys. Or beaten by the bad guys and have to face the music of defeat.

I liked how the mob bosses grandson turned into a monster, and how he's more confident around the MC. But if no consequence fetishes are planed is the story really going to go anywhere?

I also noticed game dev is using Patreon rather than subscribe star (which is why there needs to be an incest patch), maby game dev left out planned tags to Dodge Patreon?
