That guy is crazy!!! What the hell! It seems surrealistic to me. I just checked his thread, I haven't played his game, but according to the description and the previews, that game is very different, he doesn't even seem to put too much effort in his game. What I didn't understand is if Patreon gives you the right here, why are you still changing the tittle? The word shadow gave the sense of mystery that this game has. 'Echoes' doesn't give that. Maybe a storm of ideas and ask your patrons for the better title in a poll would be proper.Hello everyone!
I've been quite silent for the past few days and wanted to give you an update on what happened. You may have noticed that the game's name has changed from 'Shadows of Deception' to 'Echoes of Deception.'
A couple of weeks ago, I woke up to a DMCA notice from Patreon. Initially, I thought someone who disliked the game had issued it. After some investigation, I found out the individual responsible. He made a post here couple of days before he sent the notice:
https://f95zone.to/threads/shadows-of-the-nights-v0-02-drdougdoesdos.36845/post-12576110
This person claimed that I was infringing on his work because he used the word 'Shadow' in his game before me. Both games revolve around the life of a female detective. However, this claim isn't a solid basis for a copyright claim. If the matter were to go to court, the outcome would likely not favor him. I attempted to resolve the issue amicably, but he ignored my attempts. Subsequently, I consulted a lawyer and informed him that I would take legal action. Despite my notice, his response was not favorable. So, we sent him a counter notice.
Patreon removed the DMCA notice from my account and informed him that he would need to go to federal court and present his case from there.
Later, he reached out to me through Patreon support, to resolve the matter amicably and requesting that I change the title. My lawyer wants to take the case to court as he believes the odds are in our favor.
Pursuing legal action against someone in a different country would involve high costs and could take months or years. To avoid that, I've decided to change the title and be done with it. If he persists, I won't hesitate though.
To my understanding, in cases like these, Patreon only acts as a messenger and does not take sides, even if they are aware of who is right or wrong. We have to follow the legal route and keep them in the loop. I wish there were simpler ways to handle baseless claims like this.
This change in title won't affect the development of the game. The next update will be slightly delayed because I've spent nearly two weeks dealing with this issue. I apologize for the delay and thank everyone for the support.
The guy must be crazy indeed. The members of a court might have a good laugh after the audience, but it's not worth the hassle. That guy is crazy!!! What the hell! It seems surrealistic to me. Really sorry you had to deal with this, bro. Best wishes for a smooth journey going forward.Hello everyone!

Sorry to here this Mad_Koala. This deceptive individual should have documented his work properly, or in other words, gotten his shit together before fraudulently barging into another person’s work. It might be disheartening when your art underperforms in bed, which I categorize as disqualified. But, man, what kind of piece of crap would immediately resort to sending a goddamn DMCA, forcing the righteous man to waste his time proving he is right? I mean, even we can read the descriptions he has posted on this platform and Patreon for his 'unique' and 'obviously registered' piece of work and realize right away that they are not similar.Hello everyone!

Someone is yapping LMAOHaving read comments on an infringing thread I had the biggest laugh in a long long time reading about "Court Action" and other fantasy talk about "Counter Action". I also like how folks class me as "nuts" and say I've only put 2 updates out... Wrong. My Game is far more advanced than it states on here and as it's been around far longer than the infringing Game and I have spent far more time making my Product than anyone cares to acknowledge. This led to Patreon correctly ordering the name change. No amount of nonsense troll talk on F95zone can change the fact that my Game was here first by a country mile and is still in production. Any more attempts to soil my Game or Reputation will be dealt with and any further attempts to copy ideas will also be dealt with. Stop lying to your followers, stop threatening me and just get on with making your own Game properly without copying others.
Meanwhile I am going to go set up a TV Studio called "DrDougDoesDOSNEY" and release a new Sci Fi Show called Star Wags where a group of Rebels who are married to famous Men take on an Empire that have an enormous Space Ship called "The Dinner Star" which eats other planets ran by a chap called Darth Ramsey. I'm sure there aren't any other Products remotely like this and I'll have no issues posting free Pirate Copies here too.
