Holy fuck, you weren't kidding! The order at which you wrote everything threw me off but that did happen in the beach vacation

People who think teenagers aren't capable of the most vile things have simply forgotten their younger years or were oblivious to their surroundings.

In my eyes the only difference between a teenager and an adult is the fact that you still haven't got the time to realize that the bad things you're doing are bad, hence you should be forgiven for most of your actions.

Teenagers are just as, if not more evil than adults in my opinion, and most of them are more mentally conscious and aware of what they're doing than we give them credit for. I speak for personal experience that growing up usually mellows you down as you become more understanding.

Kirin is in fact, a quite common type of girl - teenage girls are one of the most vile types of people there can be, SPECIALLY if they find a supporting group where they form gangs and make the lives of other girls miserable. Our Kirin simply didn't happen to find more like-minded girls, otherwise she would've been part of a bully gang. Despite this, I believe that she's not necessarily a bad person, she simply didn't have the time to understand what she's doing. Some people do bad things and at some point in their lives it hits them that it's wrong and grow up, those who are genuinely evil will remain so if they havent changed by the time they're 25-30ish.


These two girls for example, showcase the bully persona but different reasons for doing it;

Exhibit A. Yumi - She has always had a good heart, despite seemingly "enjoying" bullying Futaba. I see it more as a defense mechanism

Exhibit B. Kirin - Honestly I lean towards the fact that she is just an evil person by heart, but we don't know (it's Selebus choice) but she should be given a chance. There are glimpses of her genuinely caring for other people and she's just an immature brat (who needs correction)

I’m going to suggest a different interpretation of teen “badness.” I don’t think they’re unconscious of good and evil. Most people understand that pretty early on.

I think the difference for teens is that they haven’t yet experienced real consequences (as opposed to rewards and punishments from parents and teachers). Some (Makoto, Futaba, Sana, etc.) think a bolt of lightning will come out of the sky and hit them if they ever do anything wrong. Some (Otoha, Kirin, sorta Yumi, etc.) think that they can do whatever they want and never have to pay the price.

They eventually learn, as most of us do, that when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. FAFO.

I think Sensei starts this game like a particularly sociopathic teen. He doesn’t think anything is real, so he doesn’t think about how the choices he makes are going to affect himself or others.

At this point, he’s completely paralyzed, because the consequences in this world can be so horrific—and seemingly random.

True. And they're what I'd call evil. I don't think any of the girls fall into that category, just age-wise.

Ghost Sekai, though? Not yet sure about Tsubasa. Akira, as I said, seems at least to be trying to err on the side of doing the right thing. When he is capable of doing anything at all. He's an awful person. But hey, he's trying.

(This actually ties in with a current US news story for me--but I'm going to be a good boy and not go down that rabbit hole.)

Who was the little girl with not pink hair that hung around Akira's house in the old district? (at the time that Sekai was still alive) - I mean, it can only be Maya, right? But he only met Maya after Sekai died, so which Maya was it? Maybe it was the Maya that was conjured up to change the timeline? Narrator Maya or something?

The other possibility, obviously, is that it was a different Noriko. Meaning that the current Niki and Noriko are fakes, including the pink hair, and that there were other Niki and Noriko in the original timeline. Don't know about that though, because Niki existed with pink hair in the Sekai gets married with Akira timeline... and she had pink hair then.

Could it be one of the Arakawa possible bastards? Sana, Nodoka, Rin? But why would they be in Akira's family home in the first place? Rin would be in an orphanage, so not her. Hard to imagine Sana being there by herself even if Nozomu brought her... Why wouldn't Shota be there too? Maybe Nodoka?

Makoto's picture really is the gift that keeps on giving Yeah, I don't like Niki, she's too overbearing for me. As a character she's fine, I mean for me personally.

I think the first time Ayane jokes about being pregnant is even before the first reset. Which makes me really think if when the joke became an uncomfortable reality that she then had to pretend to be a joke, since she knew Akira would not approve of it.

As for your other candidates:

• Noriko: Both of the Nakayamas' parents also have pink hair, and we have no other evidence for hair color changes. We also know (thanks to narrators) that their inner thoughts are consistent with them being real people who have always existed in this timeline.
• Sana and Rin: Their fathers were never in their lives, so they wouldn't have had any connection to Akira.
• Nodoka: I'm convinced that Nozomu can't be her father, but even if he was he probably wasn't part of her life. If Yuu is her father, she was born years after he left his family with Saki, so I don't know why she would know Akira.

Also, if it's any daughter of Nozomu, why would a play date with Ami be at Akira's house rather than Nozomu's? Akira and Nozomu don't get along and it's not like he could be trying to hide it from Sekai when Akira sucks at keeping secrets from her.

It's especially understandable when you take into account her abandonment issues and how she feels that the Arakawas are the only family she has now. She's absolutely terrified that Sensei is so opposed to being a father that he'll leave her (also taking Ami) when she tells him.

I mean, sort of. She has a longer discussion about it with Akira when they visit Io's bath place in the first chapter (before the second reset) - and Akira's not that opposed to it.

It boils down to him telling her that she'd make a good mother and that it's something he's not looking forward to right now.

I get why Ayane would feel anxious about telling Akira the news, but tbf to Akira, he's nowhere near that hostile to the idea as one might expect (he did tell Ayane she'd make a good mom and he "raised" Ami when her supposed parents died).

Edit: regarding what aramaug brought up with Akira's reaction, if you're a man and ever had some girl you're not even in a relationship with "joke" that she's pregnant, I think you wouldn't criticize Akira too much for being pissed at her joking around with this. He's more pissed at her making light of something very serious than of actually being pregnant in my eyes.

- also, getting a 15 year old that's his student pregnant would be one of the worst things that could happen regardless of his thoughts on kids.

Maya started showing up to tutoring lessons way after Noriko. If she was with Akira before Sekai's death it would make no sense for her to show up later. In fact, given that she meets Akira after running away from home, it would mean she'd be living in the Arakawa family home, which wouldn't make sense either with her later moving to the tutoring place.

Edit: Your older post makes sense, but I'm not convinced by it. I mean, I'm not convinced by it without a supernatural interference that puts a Maya there. If that's the case then I'm onboard.

Basically I don't think having Maya in his life fits the Akira that was in a relationship with both Sekai and Niki. If that wasn't an 8 year old though, and instead was a conjured up narrator Maya, then I'm cool with it.

Please don't take it the wrong way, but you seem to have missed (besides lot's of other people), that we had this "discussion" already, and it ended up very heated. (I know because i was involved , no bad blood though from pov)

The argue seems still alive though.
Lately, due to Sel's "Time Travel ™", sadly both might be true. Kinda thanks to our resident alleged goth girl's theory, where one reality might be created by another.
While i got to admit i am not a fan of that. I'd rather have it plain and simple.
