Edit: After a proper reinstall, its working much better than my previous attempt at updating, but a smidge worse than the version in OP performance-wise. I'm gonna try tweaking some of the image cache settings and seeing where that lands me. Thank you for the help Doug.

A suggestion from the HHS BK forum may help. They say some lags on girl screen may result from the renderer switching between two options.

The poster recommends using the Graphics Acceleration menu, from holding down Shift while starting Ren'Py, or press Shift+G once Ren'Py has started. Then select GL2 renderer (not default "Auto"), and disable Powersave.

Choose Return if you need to save the game before exiting game, else Quit will end game. Then run game again.

If you want to experiment with Angle2 (Windows DirectX), you could try forcing that instead, and compare results.

As the screen says, changes take effect next time you run Ren'Py (run the game).

Swapping to GL2 renderer and disabling powersave did the trick for resolving my remaining performance issues. Thanks man.

We are a lot better off than we used to be. We used to have no version numbers at all. Now we have them based on the date of release of the given patch. This is how we are able to glance at a posted exception message and tell the poster that they are running an out of date version. Once or twice Goldo has released more than one patch in a single day (generally fixing high-impact bugs), but otherwise the date-stamps work well enough as version numbers.

Tried to ignore and go on, interacting does pretty much the same thing. The game will definitely be less enjoyable if I keep getting these messages + can't converse with the girls. Any clue why this is happening?

So I basically got unlucky and downloaded the patch too early. Oh well, thanks! Also thanks DougTheC for a solution to the lags. GL2 didn't do it for me but Angle2 did.

I hate this minigame as well thankfully Goldo has thought of us - you can buy an item called "Makibishi" in the shop which lets you auto-win.

I imagine it's been pilfered from various sources. Some tracks have artists listed, even.

Since I don't think there's any kind of coherent source, your question is pretty meaningless unless you specify a track.

All the background instrumentals are good. I'm not talking about the sounds just to be clear.

Well, I figure these all come from some royalty-free or otherwise easily accessible source or are taken from another game. Possibly both. I know when I made my mod, I stole everything oriental-sounding from a bunch of adult games, and added some personal favourites from older games and other places.

But mainly I just scoured a whole lot of (mostly RPGM) games for the good stuff. Where the makers of those got them seems to vary.

Maybe Goldo took a different path, IDK. You'll have to ask him yourself.

One thing you can rely on is that the filenames likely haven't been changed.

The ones whose filename starts with a number are from newgrounds.com
The one with "Soundbible.com" in the filename is from (wild guess) Soundbible.com

The others would take a bit more searching to find, but after a few different queries I found "

" by searching for "royalty free music abyss acoustic". It looks like a lot of other tracks are also from this source, musicscreen.org

Anyone have any idea why editing BKSettings.rpy doesn't actually change how the game works? It claims that "These are the settings that can be easily edited" but they don't actually do anything. I originally wanted to just increase the max capacity of my brothel while I'm waiting for a new chapter (since I can't upgrade to a new brothel without any additional story available, it appears) but even though I've changed the max capacity it doesn't actually take effect in the game. Also attempted to change my starting gold for a new game on the off-chance these settings wouldn't work on an existing save, and nope. For all intents and purposes that rpy file might as well not be needed for the game. What am I missing here?
