Converting to a supported video format is certainly one way to do it. Another way is to actually use the individual frames directly with a pause in between each.

I'm not a huge fan of images with pauses. You can set it up to be a background animation, but it was honestly easier for me to convert it to WEBM (after several steps). It would have been a bigger pain to do it this way for all the GIFs.

Both ways work. Both types of conversions can also be scripted to have the heavy-lifting be accomplish with automation. Mostly it's a matter of personal preference and what your work flow is. It can also be done by making an animation sheet.

Certainly pick which way you feel most comfortable with and which takes you less effort. I only mentioned any alternative because you sounded unhappy with your current technique.
