You need "End of..." pages at each line, and a solid "Nothing new here!" when all locks have been opened. Many games eventually add them. Find other games on this engine and see their code.

Why can't people stick to Ren'py ? It's popular, well known, robust and easy to learn. It's also much easier for other person to create mods like walkthrough or gallery unlock.
And it speeds up the development since you don't have to spend time working on the engine itself

Also "don't reinvent the wheel" is a lesson that needs to be learned personally and usually repeatedly... and having finished most of the game, but being locked in by whatever missing feature in the engine sucks, especially if it isn't that hackable, though I would say I've seen so much variety in Ren'Py even though a majority are 'kinetic novels'

The grind is just too much, especially when you have to visit places where you can't do anything.
Take Saturday shopping.
It says, "visit the pool more often before you can buy this outfit". Weeks later, the first swimming costume is destroyed, but when you can finally go shopping again, you can't even buy the second swimming costume.
Now it will probably say that you have to keep visiting the pool, i.e. even without having a swimming costume - but that would be completely illogical. Oh, you can't use the pool at all, so the requirement and the action option are contradictory.
The situation is similar with the second jogging outfit. What makes it even more difficult is that you can choose between two jogging routes. Which one would give you the progress you need? And why do you always get the same comments from the stray and the same thoughts from Julia? There is no recognisable progress here.
Or the phone calls twice. why doesn't Julia invite her friend Madison to move in with her. The flat, i.e. the bed, is big enough for both of them and Julia would have the opportunity to finally lower the rent.
The landlord would probably add another 150 for the second person anyway, but I currently owe over 1,000 in rent. This would actually be the moment to move in with Madison
