The cause of incompatible saves is for some strange reason the dev went back to using Renpy v7.4.11 instead of Renpy 8.1.4 which they had used for the last two releases. Renpy games are not forward save compatible. What I mean is RP8 can open RP7 game saves without issue most of the time, but RP7 usually can not open a save made in RP8...
