Maybe you figured it out already but you use it and in the next round it attacks the target by flying and hitting it from the back.
So if you use it and either block or attack it will take effect.

You don't understand. Greyed-out means "nothing more on this button", but there's still plenty. It's an oversight.

You're both correct. The game is still in it's early stages of development and this is one particular oversight that the dev team needs to fix in future updates.
