look at this poll results from their patreon . if it was not for sites like this they would not be as big as they are rn .Well, what you're saying is that playing for free promotes the game, leading to people supporting and enjoying it.
If that's what the developers actually want, I'll agree with you.
But do you really think that's what the developers want?
Take the Inceton Games Team, for example they clearly don't want that, which is why they've implemented security measures to prevent piracy.
Your argument just sounds like self-justification for playing the game for free, doesn't it?
they may not want it but they cant deny that it was good for them .
