Linux user here (currently I'm using wine-devel v.4.16).
The game ran fine, but it was still in Japanese. Then I launched winetricks and chose:
Install a Windows DLL or component -> winhttp
I don't know if this is the right solution, but surely it worked for me.
If you launch winecfg, "winhttp" should be displayed in the Libraries tab (Load Order: Native, then Builtin).

Edit - Seems like 1room: Runaway Girl v1.2.0 - is pre-translated and no patch is nessary.
Just go to the options menu - and change it to English.

The patch is for an old version of the game.
The game already has an english option redownload and Do Not install the patch.

If anyone want's to use The Butler's (this threads) translation patch, only use it with version 1.1.0 of the game. Not the version from the actual game thread. Torrent for the Windows and Mac version

As Hone's said the game got updated with a official English translation, and that new 1.2.0 version is not compatible with this patch.

The game received an official translation (you can choose it in the game menu).
So this translation is incompatible with newer version and discontinued.
