The 1 minute videos are beautiful and of excellent quality......but why not stop that and instead take the opportunity to use this time taken to make much longer ones ?

Because it is a loop that doesn't take much time (mostly) and for him it is easier to make between projects, also works as a way to promote himself with free content that calls more supporters, it shows appreciation to supporters as well with some content while the big project comes and it is a way to avoid drowning on a single project.

Update
Happy 2023! 26Region has completed SAUPX despite all the hiccups. Thirty six minutes, on top of the two other mini-movies that were like 15-20 minutes each, has any other creator released as much in 2022? The closest I can think of is Sumthindifrnt's "Saviour" animation which is roughly 35 minutes, though 3/4 of were story slideshows, and the other was animations with bad angles.
In a different world, if a certain country didn't choose to participate and support the separatist that did not support the color revolution of it's country in 2014, we would have had SAUPX Part 1 released in the summer of 2022, and SAUPX Part 2 probably in the winter of 2022. But alas, he managed to get SAUPXPart 1 done. As of right now, we are in uncharted territory. He will be holding polls on which big/medium projects will be done next, it may not be voiced and will be reverted back to text based story snippets instead like his earlier works. In other news, he's is making alternate SAUPX Zero Edition where Sarah/Samus will don the Zero Suit for you absolutist who can't use your imagination to fill in the gaps. "Reeee I can't fap to this because she's not called Samus and she's not wearing the zero suit
