Funny to write this in a thread where everyone is blaming moderators...
At least on my behalf: Blaming? No. If it came across like blaming, I'm sorry for that.
I intended was to say, it would have been nice to get a heads-up that it would be gone for good, no matter what your reason for that decision was.
(As long as this wasn't braking your rules to it's extremes.)

I mean, at the end of the day, you (moderators/owner, etc.) make/enforce the rules, and we as users have to live with them. No matter how many buts or ifs.

[...] by enforcing clearer, stricter rules, as many other platforms do.

For example, asking questions that are already answered[...]
[...]and a way too big fraction of them don't care a single second about reading before asking.[...]
I have to give some credit here to Purple Heart's point.
Users who don't bother reading, even within the same thread, are obviously not just a problem to users but also for moderation reducing quuality over all, not just one side. Though I have seen it can work smoother with more strict rules or even just a higher bar of entry to that community.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
Of course, these are entirely different dimensions compared to here, but I wouldn't be surprised if a not-so-small portion of mod requests you get in, in a week is for that same reason. I mean I only see a fraction of a fraction of users simply ignoring OP notes, don't scroll up to see if someone asked the same before or don't even know the search exists. So it has to be absurdly high encounter rate for you.
(I'm not saying that server didn't need any moderation at all, but I can only imagine how much less they had to deal with these nonsense problems that every adult should be able to figure out by them self by default in most cases, and i have seen how much fast questions have been awnserd because people where tr compared to other servers.)

Strictly speaking they aren't a problem for the moderation since they do not break rules. It's if moderators had to actually goes after them that it would become a problem due to the additional workload.

This is an opened forum, not an elitist place to be.
As for rules, there's already some, with threads that require a given number of posts, or a certain seniority, before one can post on them. But anyway, as I implied, the problem is not users, nor the staff, it's the game.

The version 0.55 was triggering 20 security tools out of 71 what, through those tools updates, passed to 19 out of 72. Something that is known since more than six months, and was already old news at this time. The dev being active in his game thread, he should have addressed the issue, at least by respect for his players. The version 0.57 didn't solved the problem, nor the hotfix few days ago.

There a moment where the staff have to draw a line. Whatever inoffensive the game actually is, members' computer safety come first. If the level of suspicion is high enough (and with a threat detection above 25%, it is high) it's the later that prime, and it's what happened.

Shouldn't people at least get a message of sorts telling what happened?
That would clear a lot of the initial confusion.

Unfortunate, but fair enough.

I guess that's the price of balance between a "Hands of approach" and/or "to strict".
While not a problem for moderation per se, causing some friction indirectly and maybe some thread cleaning form time to time I guess.

Thanks for the insight into the reason, though.

The dev's been MIA in the thread for ages!
Well, reason more since he was still logged-in less than one hour ago. And, it happen that I checked earlier today, his previous connection was yesterday, so he's still more than a regular here.

He can't ignore, at least through the feedback he get on his Patreon account, that his game trigger some antivirus. Not going to his own game thread to address this issue, and remove possible confusion, just raise a bit more the suspicion.
I'm not saying that it's really a Trojan and that he put it here voluntarily. Just that his decision to never address the topic don't really speak in his favor.

The yellow note on OP, that , looks like some kind of message. Not regarding the disappearance of the thread, I agree on this, but at least about its possible future if the issue persist.
Also, I'll not test all pages of the thread through the wayback machine, but I'm sure that the post I linked (the one in the malware discussion thread) have been mentioned time to time on the game thread, as answer to people talking about their antivirus warning them.

Not to be rude, but there's also a moment where people have to learn to think by themselves and not be mouth fed everything. The thread future was at stake since long enough for its disappearance to not come out as a full surprise.

Maybe this wasn't a surprise to you, but for us regular forum users, there were absolutely no signs that the thread was going to be removed. Personally, I assumed that after all these years of it staying up, along with that note about false positives, everything was fine. Apparently, that wasn't the case (how were we supposed to know?).

But if it wasn't okay, then it raises the question: why was the thread allowed to remain in that state for so long? Wouldn't it have been better to simply lock it with a clear message, something like:
"This thread has been locked until the developer resolves or at least addresses the false positive issue."

It's also worth noting that the developer's own Discord moderators were active in the thread and repeatedly explained why the false positives were occurring. In my honest opinion, the situation was handled poorly. Deleting a long-running and informative thread over known false positives just doesn't make sense to me.

If everyone already knew they were false positives, then what's the real issue? A few extra reports claiming it's a virus? I hope avoiding those few reports was worth it, considering the thread had dozens of pages of useful information, not just about the game, but about the mods and community as well.

Maybe this wasn't a surprise to you, but for us regular forum users,
"Regular forum users" by opposition to what exactly?

Members who have a yellow badge that is nothing else than a recognition?
Members who care about the forum to make a (really small in my case) donation?
Members who use their coding knowledge to make modifications for some games available here?
Members who use their +50yo brain to evaluation a situation?

I guess that you're the kind of people who would be surprised to see a building being demolished after it having had tons of warning about how unstable it is and how dangerous it can be to enter it...

Well, you'll have to excuse me, but I'm not constantly on this website. I don't always know what is happening here, unless I intentionally search for the ins and outs.
If I did, I wouldn't be here asking what the heck happened.

I usually come to this website directly by searching for a specific game on a search engine. So obviously, I'll miss quite a lot of info regarding whatever.

About the yellow note, I already knew about the false positives, but it never said the thread would be locked; what I didn't know at the time (I was away playing some Bloodborne on pc) was the "why" the thread was locked.
I asked an available mod about it, but that mod didn't know about the game, so I didn't push any further.

If the platform continues to tolerate low-effort or redundant comments, they'll naturally multiply and degrade the quality of discussion. The real responsibility lies not with those making poor contributions, but with those allowing such behavior to persist.
yes, maybe, but no.

I would also think so (your way there), but:
- imo. you'd need twice if not thrice the number of moderators, who moreover would need to be willing to
take all the uproar that atleast the transition period would bring up
- I think they might actually be doing a pretty good job right now. After all, if you look at how it is: the level of civility, helpfulness, discussion, banter, etc. and then remind yourself that this is a PIRATE-forum for lotsa PORN-stuff (and tools and development and whatnot) ... again and again I find it surprising how overall smooth and chill things are.

also this very much:
This is an opened forum, not an elitist place to be.
out of sheer curiosity, I'd really like to see a global browser-language distribution of logins /day.
I have the suspicion that there are many users who do not speak English very well or hardly at all - and yes, there may still be good reasons to come to a place for English-language games etc.

Moreover I am not sure how much younger users are accustomed to oldschool forums, structure, usage, expected usage etc.
If one grew up with insta-answers, and no need to pay regard to what was written previously ... then it may to be expected that some folks never thought of searching a topic for some specific problem.

Should these assumptions of mine hold even if just a little, then the overall result of f95zone "experience" is even more positively surprising.

I've already shared the official explanation. If anyone would like to verify, please refer to the screenshot below.

I love the casual nonchalant bluntness of Ryahn...(paraphrased with a bit of imagination):

"What happened this thread, can you clarify?"
"Admin deleted it"
"Will it come back?"
"No."
"Will you give a more detailed explanation?"
"No."
"Will you at least come and issue some sort of statement?"

I'd gladly take responsibility for helping to clean things up and improve the community, though I understand I might not be made a moderator, I tend to favor a stricter approach to maintaining quality and order than most.

There's a certain Russian forum I know of that takes a firm but thoughtful approach to moderation. Users who repeatedly disrupt discussions or post low-quality content receive one or two warnings, and if the behavior continues, their accounts or the threads they participate in are temporarily restricted. It may seem strict at first, but the results speak for themselves; the discussions stay focused and high quality, and it's surprisingly easy to find useful information without even using the search function.

What's even more interesting is how much users there tend to respect the forum's rules and culture. It's rare to see low-effort posts or repetitive questions, because over time, people naturally learn and adapt to the community's standards. You probably see where I'm going with this, that kind of environment doesn't happen by accident.

When I compare that experience to what we have here, it suggests that a brief period of stricter moderation can sometimes be a necessary step toward building a more organized, engaging, and higher-quality community overall, assuming that's the goal.

There's no need to read minds, reading what I wrote is enough. Why the fucking fuck do you decided that I'm not a "regular forum user" while it's precisely what I am...

out of sheer curiosity, I'd really like to see a global browser-language distribution of logins /day.
I have the suspicion that there are many users who do not speak English very well or hardly at all - and yes, there may still be good reasons to come to a place for English-language games etc.
Among those who answer the few "from where are you" polls, less than a third are US citizen, a third are European, and the rest come from the rest of the world. So, assuming that around 60% are not native English speakers seem a good guess.
If you take into account that the majority never post, a basic English level is enough to understand how to navigate through the forum. And anyway there's the possibility to read the forum in your native language through browser add-ons and other. You can notice them when they decide to quote someone, because the BBCode tags are also translated.
Add to this that around half members just want to fap on games, and therefore aren't too bothered if they don't understand the dialog.
In the end, I guess that at least 30% of the members don't speak English, or do it with an (English speaking) primary school level.

Moreover I am not sure how much younger users are accustomed to oldschool forums, structure, usage, expected usage etc.
If one grew up with insta-answers, and no need to pay regard to what was written previously ... then it may to be expected that some folks never thought of searching a topic for some specific problem.
The last poll regarding the age range give 30% between 18-25, and 40% between 25-34. If you extrapolate from the previous poll, there's around 45% below 30yo, therefore who have high chance to have grown with insta-answers systems and who didn't learned the value that previous answers can have.

I'm struggling to see your point. No matter how I read it, the note below doesn't indicate that the thread might be removed at any point:

Note: The main .exe triggers anti-virus programs, which claim it's a generic trojan. Use your best judgment.

This is the exact same note that has been around for months, if not years. If seeing this makes you immediately assume it's a warning about the thread being removed, rather than a simple caution about a false positive, then I'd say you're venturing into the territory of reading moderators' minds, unless you are one of them yourself ;)

And the fact that the warning had to be added, then had to stay despite the game being updated again and again haven't triggered a bell?
