Hold up, so if I understand correctly, you're saying that $1/month supporters can still get access to game on SS, only later?
I just double checked and no. 1 $ tier gets you nothing. I made a mistake and skipped a tier (1 $ -> 5 $ and 5 $ -> 10 $). I have wasted 9 $ for nothing.
I just kinda assumed a paid tier will get me something? Anyways, now I get the 10 months long development.

You didn't waste $9 dude. You supported a content creator who's been giving out free content for years. lol. You can't look at it like that. He has no advertisements in his game. You can't expect him to live off of well wishes and compliments. lol.

IIRC the $1 gives you access to all "Proof of Life" posts - Keeps you up to date on the game's progress and previews of the upcoming update.

I know some people down grade to the $1 between updates so they can stay informed on the progress and bump it up when the update drops.

I am not sorry I supported them. Just that I should've read the tiers better and save the money for the next two updates.

Yeah, thought something was not right since SS description does not mention any access to $1 tier.

This is honestly the thing that puts me off from supporting like 99% game creators from SS/Patreon. The usual tier to get access is about $5, and while near the beginning update cycles are not too long, devs tend to drag time and make cycles much longer.

Now, $5 does not seem like much, but If I would be a patron since last update, which was in April 2024, until this one (assuming it would really be released today), it's been 11 months, so $55. Not for the whole game, but for just one single update. This is almost the cost of full AAA game, yet what I get for that price is about 1 hour of gameplay. And to add to this, since it's not any kind of contract, dev can basicaly abandon project anytime, or get to the endless milking cycle (disclaimer: I'm not saying this dev is doing that, but I do remember few painful examples of games I used to love getting abandoned or turned into straight cash grab schemes). So now I basicaly have zero trust for the content creators. I wish I could just pay one fair price for the finished product, but how can I if it's in the making and why should I become patron if based on updates schedule I will be getting basically one update in a price of full game AND even that's only valid if next updates won't take even more time AND ALSO without any guarantee that the game will ever be finished?

Well I won't argue with you about that point. Not at all. People need to be putting out updates. However, look at how much they're getting on Patreon first. If they're getting 50-100 bucks a month, they're not going to put all the time they want into the game. It's not until you get to like 4k a month in this economy that you can even THINK about going full time.
That being said, anyone making 4k a month or more should ABSOLUTELY be putting out some HEFTY updates.

And if you do the cost optimizating option of 5 $ for update and 1 $ in between, its 15 $. I understand this is a niche market, but thats still an older AAA title on GoG.
I really like this game and experienced creating adult games on the side (and the pain of it), so I dont want to berate the creators but DAMN! Its a sad state of affairs to look at.

Well I can't comment on any of that. I don't know how long their dev cycle has been going. Or how much cash they've taken in. I just released my first game last night. I'm hoping it's done by the end of the year so I can move on to the next. I can't imagine working on the same game for years. Unless it was like, an Unreal or Unity game.

As they say: "Be carefull what you wish for." Going full time may sound great, but at the same time you are spending years on something that will create a weird hole in one's CV, so they might not want to abandon it, milking updates and making the hole gaping more and more creating a positive feedback loop.

The first comment in this thread is from January 2019, so at least 6 years.
Horizon Zero Dawn got a remaster after 7 years:D
For me it was no problem to spent nights of two years to create something half decent. Original plan was always something like 9 months...

Oh god damn! 6 years?!?!?! I knew I played this game a long time ago. Well, I don't wanna assume anything but yea, that does seem sort of milkin. Maybe they're just not good at coming up with story idea's? lol

Well man, it was this game and Office Wife that really got me into making my own visual novel. I have no idea how long it'll take to make but right now, I'm putting out like 20-50 images a week so, it certainly won't be 6 years. lol.

I've managed to create over 2000 images and several animations on my trusty 1080 Ti (RIP) in the span of two years, so it was on the lower end of 20 images per week.
Right now I have some ideas for fanmade images for this game (there is a thread for them with all the assets listed for characters) but I cannot force myself to do them. Its like some kind of PTSD.

Oh no, believe me, even thought I'm new to this, I completely get it. I've been glued to my screen working on this for 3 months now. Maybe 4. First two months were just writing. Then I spent a month creating rooms, characters, props, outfits, and the last month I've been coding and rendering... I still love it, but I completely understand getting PTSD from it. That's why I said, I want this game to take a year, then I want to be on to the next one. I have 4 in the pipeline ready to go.

Fingers crossed you manage to make them all just the way you imagine them to be.
I had to quit after my third. Mostly for the reasons Streniff have mentioned in one of his recent Proofs of Life.
But I still like to create and write scenarios and character test pieces when I have a creative overpressure from time to time.

What was the reason about quitting? Personal life stuff? Job? Burn out?
Dude, I'll be honest, I'm making my game just to learn everything on my way to making an Unreal game. lol.

Mix of all of that. And the revenue wasn't worth compromising the life, job and sanity stuff further.
Now I cant get behind schedule nor over budget:)

We again ask that the alpha not be leaked. It'll have bugs, and worse.... Typos!

Give us a week to put some polish on it.
That's fair.

Wish I could just buy it on Itch or somewhere. I'd pay $20 for it even if it's an Alpha; the game is that good, and I trust the Dev to not irelease short updates with little content (unlike some other creators).

Yeah, I would like to buy it also, but it won't likely happen since option of one-time purchases would probably harm monthly income...

Anyway, for me it's already February 15th. So... I'm curious, did the release happen as announced earlier? I'm not asking to leak it, but I'd like to know if it actually happened.

You eventually get used to all the excuses and nothing being on time with this dev. Was funny seeing him say he will release today, having a family, one would think he'd be to busy on Vday for a release, but still somehow had time to check forum several here times today. Only Aholes would treat their fans this way. just saying. Was looking forward to this update being on time. Should have known better I guess.
