and this is why game releases should not be behind a paywall.
I'm beginning to agree. The sad part about all of this is that there's no way to regulate these folks. If you bring in regulations, then all of the games will turn vanilla. Only in This community can a dev get pay advances for work that's delayed, incomplete, buggy, poorly done or just plain incompetent.
As far as this game goes, I said it before, that when I found out on Discord very early in the year that Will was supposedly working on another game, while not even being at the halfway mark of this one, I was worried. I even expressed my concerns there & was assured by both Will & strenif that the 2nd game was a means to avoid burnout on AFV. I was told that the work for AFV had a lot of content being developed and that when the update came out, it would be huge. The thing was was that there was no time table given for when an update would be released.
Whether he has family issues or work issues, I can't say & won't speculate because I don't live with either of them. I can give the benefit of the doubt because I have a number of family issues as well that keeps me from finishing my novel. What I ask for and expect, is to be transparent. If you have issues, just come out and SAY it. Most people can understand. If you're only doing this on weekends and during small breaks at home, Say That Too. Then be honest. If you're taking people's money through a paysite, be respectable. Ask your supporters if they're willing to continue paying after you suspend the game. As it stands, if you go to the paysites, you'll see that a lot of folks have money to throw away. For those not willing, shut the service down after 30 days. Don't just lie and keep stealing money (L&P). It's that kind of thing that pisses paying folks off. Doesn't matter about the pirates because they'll Always find something to bitch about anyway. For them, it's a matter of confidence. I've seen a few out there who decided to sub to a game because they liked the content and was willing to contribute but you can't expect that with long delays and lies. Hell, as frugal as I am with my money, I briefly subbed until i found out that a second project was being done. I knew Then that AFV was done and promptly Unsubscribed 2 days after talking to strenif.
I've been in this forum long enough to see the brickwall coming for games long before others. The patterns are basically the same. The reasoning is the motivation of money. When your motivated by it and you're doing creative work, it ALWAYS affects how you perform, good or bad.
Can't say that I'm surprised by the news as again, I saw this one coming. Just shaking my head at how long it took to get here. Now, at least, I can unfollow this thread & try to sort through the myriad of games that I downloaded to find one or two that I like. The most ironic part of this for me is, AFV was the 1st AVN game that I discovered and it's what got me into them in the First place. Oh well. It's been Real, it's been Fun but it ain't been Real Fun.
