With the additional "side"problem of having monthly income as long as you keep it going, which you can't if you just finish it.
At some point, a successful developer will dothis fulltime, depend on it, then hire help.
It's difficult to find the right time to branch off. If they even want to.
But yes, a labour of love only carries so far.
At this point, it's been going so long I am reasonably certain I wouldn't actually be emotionally affected by whatever is revealed.
Actually he has that monthly income regardless, you and I both know people don't retract their patreon donations no matter what the fuck happens. Dev could be caught having preschooler diddy parties and he'd still be making thousands off Patreon assuming his page isn't shut down.

This is definitely bloat, but I think it's the narrative bloat of a newbie author afraid everyone will think his twist sucks and so he's spinning the tires pretending he'll reveal it eventually while sweating on the inside and praying to extend the time before he has to actually tell that part of the story.

I think a problem is that when the dev asks his patrons whether they would like some new cool-sounding feature, such as the potion recipes, they almost always say yes, not realising that the effort that goes into that will mean that less time is available for working on the main plot. It's not just this game; I've seen it happen with a number of Patreon games.

That's fair. Letting the audience decide what goes into the game is one of those ideas which sounds great on paper, but in practice it's fucking awful. I'm strongly of the opinion the dev should have full creative control of the project.

That doesn't stop feature bloat, but the masses are famously not good at moderation.

I think the issue is fixed (at least in 0.7.17r2) where you need to hang out instead of talk (or the other way around), but the other half of the issue is, and I'm fairly sure this was it, you need to finish on her back. It's probably one of the more opaque things, in that it should let you opt out, but they want it done in a specific way.
